Steering Wheel

I purchased this wheel from Jeff Alton - always a pleasure dealing with Jeff. It is a replica ST wheel.

Could someone please help identify the era this wheel was first made.

Because I have collector plates on my 1982, I need to be era correct with what is on the car. I know the wheel would have been pre 1982. Just hoping to narrow it down to a more specific time period.

Many thanks for your help.

Hey Charlie,
I'm sure you realize this wheel was probably made very recently, as in the last few years. It was produced to replicate the style of the flat Momo prototipos of the era of the late 1960s to mid 1970s — though the side spokes are at a slightly higher angle than the Momo prototipo. I'm not sure if this answers your question or not. I can't imagine having an aftermarket wheel mounted in your car would be a problem. For what it's worth, prototipos were produced in 1982 so you should be okay. Best of luck.

Thanks Mark.....exactly what I needed. Yes, the wheel is unused and basically months old.

I can tell the "people's insurance company" (we have government insurance here in British Columbia) that it is a late 60's early 70's steering wheel. The people's insurance is really fussy about after market parts on the car - to the point of cancelling insurance policies if you violate their rules.

Cheers.

Hey Charlie,

In respect to ICBC’s definition of “Era Correct”, what “Era” do you suppose our 911’s fall into. It can be argued that our air cooled 911’s fall into the 1974 – 1989 era? If that be the case, it opens all kinds of possibilities?
