Distance of chin spoiler to ground?

Will be installing a chinny for street use but also want a good stance. I see many choose 25.5" front wheel arch to ground and 25" rear. A consideration is not to rip the thing off or replace it annually. Since there will be the usual hazards, steep curb cuts, concrete parking stops, steep driveways, etc what distance floor to bottom of the lip would you recommend?

Much grass

What model 911 and what types of chin spoiler are you lookingast? or are you just asking in general what height will clear those things?

How for OUT the chin spoiler sticks will also effect approach angle, not just how far off the ground. Low chin spoilers on most sports cars do not clear parking stops, at least none I have ever had and that's quite a few on different types of cars.

At 24.5" to the front fender lip, my chin will barely clear a 4X4 post on it's side (approx. 3.5"). The chin has lots of flexibility and I've actually had it pushed completely up and it bounced right back to it's original shape.

Rick, my car is closer to 26" at the fender lip, stock 205/55-16 tire size. I don't have the car with me at work today, but I'll try to remember to measure the lip height when I get home. My car will drag the lip lightly over some speed bumps and such, especially if the tank is full. No permanent visible damage has ensued from this dragging.

Thanks tshebib and arnie. will wait for your measurements too. Good to know they will deform and bounce back.

Any experience with the cheaper alternative offered by our host and fit and durability?

If viewing via a smarty phone maybe my signature line is not visible which says it's an 82 SC.

It's not neccesarily the low speed impacts it the speedier ones....I also run a splitter up front. I run sport adjustable konis and heavier T-bars. A little harsh for the street but I don't bottom out.

You can adjust height by adjusting the t-bars but need to align afterwards, or go with a lower profile tire.

Hey Rick. I'm 26" at the lip. This stock style spoiler is on a stock valence and I've got exactly 6" of clearance. I'd like to get a better stance so I've got some room to drop down in the front, but I'm already scraping on driveways and parking lot entrances and I'm not banging into parking choks. So I'm conflicted... it's a street car, daily driver so any change would be for asthetics.

6.25 inches on mine, seems to work but still go sideways over speed bumps.

On mine, it's not the chin spoiler that scrapes, it's the dad-gum Rennline tie-downs.

I'm seriously thinking of cutting off part of the original T bar covers/tie-downs and re-welding them so they are shorter and putting them back on.

Just under 25" at the wheel arches and just over 5" center of the spoiler. There are a few parking lot transitions in town I can't make but for the most part I am scrape free. I find that my muffler tip will scrape sooner that my chin spoiler.

Alan - I dig the pushed back bumper. Subtle but I always like what it does for the shape of the car. -J

I wouldn't put too much stock in this. They are pretty stiff and have been known to bend the bottom of the valance, if drug across something too hard. Lot's of cars running around out there with wavy spoilers/valances...

Lots of them get scraped up in the front and then they look like hell.

Good point, my car's valance is not the straightest. Although I don't think it has gotten any worse on my watch, not after I raised the front ride height by ½" or so.

With a full tank, fenders are at 25¾", lip right at 6".

Alan, gorgeous ride. The pushed-in bumper is excellent I see the dilemma - if you go below 26" the chin spoiler will rub even more, but then you want a better stance. Wonder if anyone has successfully cut one down an inch without it looking like crap? Looks like Jar still has had success at 25. I see that many go with the 25.5 front so it seems like a good compromise. Will be interesting if the tail pipe rubs with 25 in the rear.

Any other first hand advice would also be appreciated.

just fitted the car with rsr finished rota linea corsas, 7 & 9 x 17 but am not posting a pic because after pulling so much weight out of the back it currently looks like a baboon ready to be unceremoniously mated. Sending it in to be lowered, aligned, and corner balanced.

EZ lip alternative chin spoiler

Hi Rick,

If you want more clearance and minimize scrapping while you lower the car a bit, I was thinking why not remove and save the OEM chin spoiler by replacing it with a EZ lip chin spoiler trim. Looks like it more have clearance than the OEM and its easy to install (no drilling required) and easy to take off once you decide to bring back the stock chin spoiler.

I assume this is just for looks right? I don't think it could provide any downforce or aerodynamic benefit since its squishy

Has anyone tried the skid plates for the tow hooks?

Porsche 911 & Carrera Suspension - Page 6

My current ride height is 24.75 in ront and I sometimes hit driveways but I don't have a front spoiler yet...I am going to install on and these skid plates.

Yes. They sandwich the tow hooks. Some drilling of tow hooks. Very easy installation if two hooks aren't mangled. You'll need some muscle if they are. Get a fresh drill bit too.
