replacement oil sender electrical connector?

Hi all,

Anybody know where I can track down a replacement electrical connector for the oil sender in my '85 Carrera 3.2?

Mine has one of the two plastic clips broken off, so the gauge doesn't read correctly unless I push the connector down onto the sender's single round terminal.

Creative fixes/workarounds would be fine too.

If you run an ice pic inside the plastic connector to deform the metal piece that slides over the oil sender single post it will make a better connection.

Thanks! The wire broke at the connector on mine. The above was supposed to be a temporary fix, so I could drive with the piece of mind that I really did have oil pressure. I brought the connector to a client of mine, but even they could not get the metal bit out from the plastic. Soooo, the alligator clip has stayed. I don't remember if I ever found the part on PP or not.

Unfortunately, that connector is part of the main wiring harness. I'm going to do a little measuring and connector research at a few electrical parts places, to see if I can find some sort of friction-fit barrel/bullet connector that will work.

And then, after wasting my time on that, I'll probably attach an alligator clip like you did.

I thought of that already. My new sender is already on the car, and I'm not going to remove it for soldering, because my A/C bracket makes removal/replacement a NIGHTMARE.

That said, I'd have to solder something onto it in the vertical position it's in. What are the odds that would loosen up the existing solder in the middle of the pin enough so that it drips into the sender and screws something up?

It might - there is an insulated wire connecting the internals to that post.



Isn't the post threaded? Some (most?) are, with the spade lug male connector attached with a nut. That would make fixing things pretty straight forward.

Alternatively, why not crimp on something. One of the larger yellow insulated sizes might fit? And if it didn't, you could remove the insulating plastic and open the fitting up before crimping - doesn't have to be insulated at the sender, you could tape it after, etc.

My '71 is threaded, I didn't realize the later cars are not. Not sure of the size of the stud, but there are more secure mechanical connections available.

How about something like this?:

Hi: British Lucas connectors (bullet female) may work for you. Check your local supplier of British sports car parts (Moss comes to mind).

Solved. As usual, I over-analyzed the problem. Looking through my box of electrical connectors, I had one blue bullet connector left, and low and behold, it fits perfect -- nice and snug.

I crimped the bullet connector onto a piece of new wire, soldered that to the existing wire (after cutting off the original connector), and covered the solder joint with heat-shrink tubing to make it nice and neat.

It probably goes without saying, but my connector is not threaded. It's a smooth post with a connector retention ring, like the one pictured in post #2.
