Flapper box MFI, when needed?

I only drive my MY72 Targa when it's over 10 Celsius (50 F). Does it make sense to have the the air intake flapper box installed? It's currently on my car but doubt if it makes a big difference.

Next to that, the SSI HE's I bought have the MFI exit but not the flapper box exit....

Cheers,
Ed

It's only a pre heater for intake air. Probably not necessary. It was placed there to help in warm up exhaust emission.

SSi's do not have the flapper box heat setup, only the old orginal ones have it, well maybe some after mkt ones do. So if it's not hooked up, then you can delete it-I did as well as many others. So funny that this post came up as I was just looking through an old box full of parts and I had not seen that part in years until this am.
Milt beat me to it.

Thanks, so no effect on how quickly the engine gets to 180F?
Might then delete it as well, saves some weight and that flap sound when you take the foot of the pedal :-)

No, I don't think it helps the oil temp rise more quickly. The warmed intake air helps smooth out the rich idle characteristics of the warm up process. I think the apparatus is the same for all engine models, but might be more beneficial on the S because those motors can be real snotty when cold.

I removed mine years ago, but keep it for if I ever sell the car. It only helps to get warm air to the engine when really cold.
