'74 door pocket

Do I assume when new the door pocket form '74 to 89' would sit even with the pocket lid? Mine are hanging out from the pocket lid as shown in the pictures below. I'm thinking of installing the Recaro seat shown in the picture and you can see that the pocket is touching the seat. Would new aftermarket pockets align within the lid, not hang out. If you have any pictures please post them.

Yes your pocket would have originally aligned with the lid. Repro pockets are a crap shoot. I purchased fiberglass ones from eBay and they were slightly small in every dimension due to the fiberglass shrink. Took a lot of massaging to fit right. I have seen ABS plastic ones advertised which may have better fitment.

My pockets were the same as yours maybe worse.
I re did the interior of the 74 carrera and in doing so was faced with the problem of the door tops bending were there was no support from the pocket.
We took a 8 in long piece of aluminum bar stock and glued it to the inside of the pocket and covered the pocket over with new vinyl. the bar stock gave the pocket enough support that it could be reshaped.
It looks great but was a little work

About 10 years ago I bought some fiber glass pockets from a ad in the magazine, they looked like crap and were returned. The ABS ones look good from pictures but I haven't seen them in hand. I might remove the carpet and see if they can be reshaped, the 74 pockets are shaped different than latter ones, the carpet at the bottom rubs against the door seal, they originally had vinyl on them.

Any recommendations of which aftermarket pockets are of good quality. I see some are made of ABS and some fiber glass.

This link shows a major reconstruction of the door pockets - his were worse than yours in other areas but he also had the wide pocket . If you got the time and the interest, this may be an answer. But as one poster asked - is it worth the trouble? I think it is, but I like these types of projects.
