I am trying to replace the rear panel reflector on my 1983 911 SC targa. According to the service manual, if I lift the rubber seal below the engine lid, fasteners will reveal themselves!
On my car, underneath the rubber steel is a solid steel plate. I cannot access the rear of the reflector panel from above, below, or from the side. The car has not been altered to my knowledge. Do I have a mutant 911? HELP PLEASE!!!

Your car is the same as my '81 SC. What you have to do is take a putty knife, flat pry bar, or thin screw driver and gently pry the reflector out working across the top.
There are insertion spring clips that hold the reflector on. The reflector has round pegs that the clips bite into, and the rear panel has square holes that the clips clip into. The older models had studs mounted on the round pegs, but that is not the case on yours. Good Luck
