Buying this 83 SC...........
It is going for a PPI tomorrow since I am in Denmark and the car is in US. I have had a couple of 911s earlier. Doesnt the tranny look a little black from oil? What could be the cause?
Have had 3.2s and 3.6 earlier.....going the wrong way for me ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The transmission seals may be bad. $15.00 USD for the pair and easy out - easy in. Replace one at a time, leaving flange in place on one side as you pull other side to R&R the seal. Not a tough fix.
Since this means removing the axles you will want to replace the CV joints unless you know they are in good condition.

Assume you mean the oil drain plate? The plate is removable (on pre 84's) so you can clean the pickup screen if you desire.

Could be the transaxle vent is either loose or incorrectly oriented. More info here:
Transmission vent? please read and comment need help locating a tranny oil leak As for the oil around the bottom of the engine. This could be from any of the usual suspect sources above this point. The archives will provide more detail. Hope this helps. Sherwood |

Not sure if you have seen this '83 on the host site but looks a whole lot cleaner all around, especially the engine. A few more miles but looks well cared for. You might want to check it out as a back-up or as a second option. 1983 Porsche 911sc Coupe black on black *Low miles*Very nice California car* Good luck, Mike

I think 83 is a really good year. Loved my 81.
I saw you were having the PPI done. Make sure they check for cylinder/head stud problems. I assume any good shop will. And even if they are good, you need to keep an eye on them. My 81 had several broken. I knew it when I bought it, but still spent more than I planned. Later Brad |

It is always hard buying long distance as I discovered with my first 911 which came as a bad ebay experience. I later bought my current '82 Targa which is in great condition and nearly 100% sorted. Of course, I now own two cars with one on each side ofthe pond. I will eventually get around to doing something with the one on the US side but for now am enjoying the one on this side. The good thing about the cars listed on this forum is that they all seem to be pretty honestly represented. Yes, there is the odd one that slips in but for the most part, even the dogs seem to bare their wounds. Good luck with your search and welcome to the forum. Mike

That should be the last thing you should do.

DO NOT transfer funds before a PPI. You should pay for the PPI up front, but once the funds are transferred, you own the car.

Has the wrong front valance for an '83 SC. Should have the separate driving lights that stick out from the valance. Could be someone just preferred the looks when the Carrera came out but could also have been changed as part of accident repair. Interior looks nice except for the digital key pad next to the ignition - don't hear many good stories about after market alarm systems. Hope the PPI goes well. Make sure they do a leakdown test. Good luck,

Now in 993 land ...

This car looks a little tired overall. The rubber strip ("smile") on the front hood is goofed up. The seat bolster has wear on the driver's side.
Not sure what kind of dealer this is, but some die on that seat bolster, vaseline on the fuchs, steam clean of the underside and some armor all on the rubber parts and a full polish of the paint would go a long way. ![]() I would try to find a car from a private party here on Pelican. George |

I'd keep looking, or at least give the one mike911SC posted consideration over the other. Miles aren't that much an issue anyway, as you know it's how the car was cared for. As for the PPI - make sure you get a GOOD shop to do it and MAKE SURE THEY CHECK THE HEAD STUDS (I'll spare you the sad story of my 83SC PPI/purchase).
All that said, looking at those two cars makes me consider putting my stock deck back on and hanging my duck in the garage, those cars look soooooooo good stock. ![]()
