RSR fenders - I need some advice
I'm planning to build a '73 RSR clone based on my '75 911, which has welded Turbo front fenders (they are in good shape). I see three solutions to get RSR front fenders:
1: I can try to find some early front fenders and cut off the part under the headlight and weld this part on my g-model front "Turbo" fenders (a lot of welding to do this right, I guess) 2: Buy two new early front fenders and Turbo flares from Dansk and sell my "Turbo" front fenders 3: Buy a couple of RSR fiberglass front fenders from Getty, Rennspeed or another supplier and sell my "Turbo" front fenders What do you think would be the best solution (quality, price etc.)? Perhaps, I should mention, that I can't do any welding myself :( |
Street car or Track car?
For the street, I'd stay with steel. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/382578-late-74-up-early-69-73-fender-conversion-thread.html I wonder if you could do it with 'structural adhesive' instead of welding? |
It will most of the time be used as street car and some times for track days

I am no pro but after reading about fiberglass gel coats cracking as they age I would probably try to stay with steel. The weight saving for the fenders is not huge anyway. I would probably go with fiberglass hood though to save on some weight.
I think some of the carbonfiber stuff offered today is very high quality but I have no clue how to fit that stuff if it does fit correctly..... I mean what do you do, put body filler on it? |

Don't be afraid of the welding. You could get a shop to do it, or invest in an inexpensive mig welder, and sell it when the project is done. |
A big wing conversion using fillets..

Stick with steel. You will thank yourself later (Fiberglass WILL crack)
