What does this ID plate tell me?

I have searched this forum, looked through my Bentley and even asked Stephen Colbert....

1985 911 Cab.

I discovered this removable plate while installing a Seine shifter kit.

It is metal and about 1.5 X 2.5 inches and very thin.

The numbers on my plate are 115 0142.

Anyone know what this means?

I believe that is is a production number for the welded body.
Has anyone else found this tag? If so, please add your info.

More photos supplied to me. This is a location shot:

and a closeup

another closeup

This sure looks like the production numbers that used to be on the dash frame:

If anyone that has a 1980's 911 could check to see if they have a tag in the same location, then perhaps we could learn much more.

Would someone with an 85 please look and see if you have this plate in your car?

Looks like a dog tag. Your car was once an armed forces member.

I have the same tag in the same spot on my '84, #104 6736. It was underneath the sound deadening material.

Am I reading this correctly?
We have two cars with this tag simply sitting (not attached) in this location.
Are there more?

Is the number on the tag the same as the production number on the dash?

Best,
Grady

I'm with KNS. I have one of these somewhere from my '88. It was under the sound deadening material. Mine had flaked up, so I took it off and stored it somewhere. I'm not sure where I put it now!

That is correct, Grady, my tag is just loose, sitting in a stamped area just the right size for the tag.

I finally got around to removing the dash kneepad and the same number is stamped there.

Really would be interesting if others would look under the driver side matting for this plate or the stamped area where it would be located.

I removed my carpet and found the same tag, on the drivers side. Lots of quesses, vendor tag for carpet, id tag for type of carpet, id tag for interior type. I don't know the answer but sounds like we're all alike?
