Small Crest to cover CAS light?

Hello all,

I was thinking of finding a small Porsche Crest to cover the CAS light on my speedo. There is one on the ignition ket buy likely one size too small, and another in the pelican catalog but it's probably one size too big.

Any ideas on one that would be "just right"?

What's a CAS light?

Is that the "Hey, dummy, time to shift" light?

Computer-Aided Shift IndicatorSystem (CASIS)

I seem to recall reading somewhere that you should be able to unplug the CASIS wire from behind the Tach. One of these days I'm going to get my tach out of the dash and have a look - that light drives me crazy too!

On our '86,

There seems to be a connection from the 8 pin upshift indicator module,
to the DME.

But I'm not sure if the bulb act as an element for the DME.

If I recall, I asked the same question upon purchase of our '86,
and was advised that it was necessary for DME performance.

Please apprise us of your results.

Thanks,

Gerry

Simply pulling the bulb out of the tach and letting it just dangle is another option....it will just light up behind the dash. You may have to ground it if it has only one wire to it and it's part of the DME circuit.

Ton confirm, email Ingo at 3.6@cox.net and ask him. Mention what year DME you are dealing with.

The way I drive, it seems the bulb is going to burn out before long.......

Even once it is extinguished, by whatever means, I'll still have an arrow-shaped lens to hide so I thought little emblem would do just fine.

The shift light was added, I think, primarily for the US gas guzzler tax thing. It serves no useful purpose and certainly has nothing to do with the ignition system or performance of the car. If you clip the black wire on the back of the tach you will disable the irritating fuel economy light, but the it will still come on at the rev limit.

I found some appropriately sized ones and ordered them :

3D-Decals - 2 X Small PORSCHE Crest 3D Decals Stickers

Look promising, we shall see. Now....... am I going to be able to take the clear face off the speedo? Probably should have asked before I hit the buy-it-now button...
