I believe it was originally a term used to describe the 356 hot rods that the Emorys were building. Has gone into more widespread usage in recent years.

The car should have a modify engine and some esthetic changes like the aforementioned shifter. But if you have shifter, you are good.

Basically, it boils down to modifying a car in a manner that is contrary to the usual accepted practice and often involving aspects of other car cultures, like hot-rodding. In the beginning, it was mainly things that annoyed the purists. Nowdays it's more mainstream, even fashionable.

Plywood spoilers and Rtype badges.

Disregard, I thought you meant what cars should be outlawed...carry on.

Outlaws are mean, nasty snarling cars that break thru the golf course gates, rip up the fairways leading to the concours and eat up all the poodles.

They sometimes steal a few hubcaps or leather steering wheel crests before the sail away in their longboats.

Bullet holes!!!!!! Maybe!

One guy above had a Webster's quality definition which we should submit to the publishers!

If you think the police will give you fix it tickets or impound the darn thing, then it is an outlaw build! But I also liked the one about the Car Show crowd being displeased with it in the general vicinity of their cars! Thus we can't help the guys that buy one of those kangaroo scrotum sack shifter knobs or similar or stickers and pose as an outlaw build!

I posted this image of my car several years ago some older jent said I just see a car in primer. Bingo made my point. I drive the hell out of that car. And am still contemplating the final color I want. It isn't in primer anymore though.

That is a tough one. On one hand, its simple deviation from stock might force it to be filed as such but the modifications are so seamless they would most likely fall unnoticed to the untrained eye.
It seems to me the outlaw is developed so as it really sticks out in the crowd.

First if I actually want to actually listen to someone, I actually am capable of answering a direct question! Ok you move to the west "Dodge City" and can afford to buy the latest and greatest Colt Peacemaker and that makes you a gunfighter outlaw! NO!

How was that???

the singer does not qualify ..........

the one below in uncles post ... DEFINITELY qualifies ....

outlaw=badass ... not usually associated with pretentious ........

it also used to go along with did yourself .. with blood, sweat and wrenches .. not just credit card ...
