Dual exhaust conversion - 87 3.2
for a stock 87 3.2, what do you recommend for an exhaust upgrade, and if I go to a dual exhaust, is there a rear valence conversion kit to add the second opening? I see some exhuast systems on the Pelican site, but no body panels for the valence modification.

993 Hes with the flanges flipped and a M&K dual out. Very solid combo. Contact M&K.
I beleive RarlyL8 has rear valances.

1.SSI heat exchangers with an M+K muffler, 2in/2out
2. Backdate to pre-1975 factory heat exchangers with an M+K muffler, 2in/2out 3. Headers(no heat) with M+K muffler 4. Install a cat bypass pipe with an M+Kmuffler, 1in2/out The first 3 options would give you "true" dual exhaust while #4 would give you a better sound but not be dual. There are several muffler/header companies out there but M+K is a great product made by a fellow Pelican. ![]() Do a search and you will find tons of info on setups and installation. You could just buy a used Dansk or similar one-in/two-out and see how you like the noise first. They are mucho noisier with two outlets. The valance thing is easy enough to sort.
If you put a WTB in the parts forum, you should get something to get you off the ground for not a lot of money. Run a twin-out past the passenger's ears before you spend out for new stuff! ![]()

Fabspeed has a great looking and sounding one in two out polished stainless muffler that i installed along with a MK euro cat bypass on my 89 Coupe...
Great investment and not too loud as the Fabspeed is a dual wall muffler that significantly cuts out the resonation associated with other "cheaper" mufflers ! The oval exaust tips are just beautiful pieces of work ![]()

Fabspeed also has a step by step video on how to modify the valence for a second tip on the right

I don't know about Fabspeeds construction, but current oem Porsche practice is triple wall construction

![]() here's a pic w/ both the altered and original valance ![]() JMO, but I really like the sound from the current Fabspeed dual exhaust/header setup, they are using a muffler thats a little bigger than most aftermarkets, w/ mufflers bigger internal volume usually equates to better sound control. here's a pic of a Fabspeed I took last week at LRP ![]() They are a bit big for most street driven 3.2s but still would work well

RUF sells a second outlet valence that is factory matched with the first, its a mirror of the other side with the correct taper etc.
Just cutting a hole in the second oem valence will not duplicate the other side - some don't care, some do. For those that do you will want the RUF valence. RUF's sport dual out muffler comes with the new valence...

![]() O.K. here is a picture of the Fabspeed two in one out muffler installed on my car along with a MK euro cat bypass ... ![]() ![]() ![]() As for cutting a second hole in the valance, anybody who is somewhat handy can accomplish it in 20 minutes. Regarding to their muffler being double walled,we are not comparing to OEM mufflers here but rather aftermarket ...

I am going to suggest something else. Modify your existing muffler by adding a second outlet on the pass. side. Cut your valance yourself with a verv fine-toothed jig saw. (there is an old thread describing this). This mod will cost you about $100.00 and give you basically the same effect/benefit of spending over $1500.00 on new HE's and a muffler on your stock engine.

I have an '87 on which I installed the Fabspeed premuffler and Dansk 1-in-2-out.
The rear valence did require cutting for the second outlet (as shown in the Fabspeed video referenced above) and I rolled the edge of the cutout a bit to make it look more "factory". I like the sound, but yes it is much louder with 2 outlets - not so much at low rpm's but above 3k rpm it is notable. Mine and quite a few others are shown here: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/349342-official-modified-bumpers-thread-post3922595.html?highlight=bumper#post3922595 |

One cautionary note: It will be loud.
Love the sound of my engine, never play the radio. But I am somewhat alone on that one. neighbors complained, actually called the police. My son told me he knows when I drive the 3.2 to work; I drive within a quarter of a mile of his school and he knows it's me. So do the other boys in his class, and his teacher. She told me it was disruptive. My younger son and I play the "Lets set off the car alarms in the enclosed parking lot" game. all I'm saying is be careful with your choice. I bought mine used and do a fair amount of track days. It's gotten louder over time. Maybe someone else could suggest how to quiet them down if you find it a bit too loud... As DCOBRA says: Loud pipes save lives

Here's my contrib to the ultimate exhaust thread...
Flowmaster 80 series crossflow muffler 1 in 2 out #42583 (3) MagnaFlow mandrel bent elbows, 45 deg J bend # 10736 (1) MagnaFlow mandrel bent elbow, 90 deg L bend # 10706 Collector flange Summit # HED-15212 Gasket Summit # SUM-610125 (2) Hose clamps McMaster Carr # 8946K44 The sound is great: nice deep base with a raspy aftertaste. Several people have come up to me at the track and asked about it. You can install this gear for less than $200, compare that with some of the alternatives! |

I actually helped a buddy with this setup on his 3.2 - once all welded up and ceramic coated in a nice matte black it looks pretty sick - in fact sick enough that he thought about fabbing up a few more to sell. His sound made the 3.2 come as close to a V8 rumble that I have heard to date...I like the sound of my RUF Sport Muffler but it is heavy.

I didn't weight any parts but I am sure the stock banana muffler is significantly heavier.
