IS it '65 or '66 911?

Hi,
There is a 911 advertised for sale in my region with number 303775.
It's advertised as end 1968....Don( think this is correct...but what year is it?
This indicates it's a 1965:
Porsche 911 Chassis Numbers 1964 to 1969
This indicates it's a 1966:
1964 - 1968 SWB Porsche 911 Registry

Oh it's completely rebuild into a 964 with cup wheels and on, engine is a 2,4 T and an awfull interior what a shame...

Grady is correct.
A quick guide to model year is to use the paint code on the badge attached to the L door post:
1965 has 64xx codes
1966 has 66xx codes beginning near VIN 301900
1967 has yy-66xx-Z codes beginning at VIN 305101 & 500001
1968 has yy-68xx-Z codes VIN begins 118
1969 has yy-68xx-Z codes but no VIN # on the badge however VIN begins 119
Earlier codes could be used in later years, and 5 digit codes are also known.

Hi,
Here 's the novice again

Is 303775 build in (end) 1965 then?
And model 1966

Friend of mine has almost finished rebuilding
307533
Is this a beginning 1967 model and build in 1966?

ATB,
303775 would have been built in 1965 and is a 66 model year. Is it the end of 65? Not sure but my source says 66 model year car #'s run from 303391-305100 so your car is in the early part of production.

307533, again, is a 67 model build in 66. The # indicates a production started about 11/66 when type 901/06 engines were installed, beginning with vin 307351 so this car appears to have been built in late 1966, maybe even early 67 due to holiday breaks in production.

1965 model year was from 300001 to about 301900, some built with higher VIN #'s
1966 model year was from about 301900, possibly earlier to about 304955
1967 model year was from 305101 & 500001
1967 MY production began before 1966 MY production ended, so they left plenty 1966 VIN #'s to be used, but not all were used. 303391 was the first produced in the 1966 calendar year; so sites get calendar year and model years mixed up. Porsche was not forthcoming on the 1965 to 1966 VIN divide; indeed, since completion was not in VIN sequence, it is very difficult to determine the range over which it did occur. Was the divide by VIN, by completion date, by paint code format or by changes to the dash? These details are still being thrashed out 45 years after the fact.
