Ok so the previous owner had replaced the fuse box.. I have been hunting gremlims for a while now..

I am going to have to get the wire diagram to check all of the connections, but in the mean time.. anybody see anything odvious wrong in these picture? there a few wires disconnected at the bottom of the fuse box... can anybody help with a simple solution?

I assume that's the '72?

'71 & '73 wiring diagrams here: Pelican Parts - Porsche 911 Parts Listings & Diagrams

Probably no shortcuts, other than finding someone with the same car and comparing them side by side.

Next best solution would be to trace the wires and compare to the diagrams.

not it's the 85.

Here's a pic of our '86.

Check your Bentley for compatibility.

You may pm me as needed.

Your fuses look a bit "used".

Good luck,

Gerry

thanks.. that is exactly what i needed to compare... and yes the fuses look horid! I the next thing on the list is to clean up the whole box and new fuses.

I think you may have a corrosion issue on top of any other issues. I see every shade of corrosion in the first picture.

86 may differ slightly from 85.....

Here are some photos of my previous 85.....needed 3 shots. Notice not completely stock since I wired-in the headlight relays. Should otherwise be stock. Only mod is lower grey wire shift to allow fog lights to be on whenever parking lights are on. Shots run front-to-back.

OK so this brings up another question.... what is the best was to clean off the contacts? or should I just replace the fuse box?

Ink eraser, or fine grade emery, rose paper, steel wool - with Battery disconnected. I don't use solvents.

Why not replace the whole thing with modern fuse holders? I've done it it's not that tough

theiceman 11-25-2010 09:23 AM

.. because that fuse holder is part of the lore ... another eclectic thing that makes up a classic 911..
