Albert Blue Targa Lightweight/R Gruppe
I bought a Albert Blue (it's a dark blue) '71 T Targa 5 months ago from the original owner and my plan is to build it up in the Lightweight/ R Gruppe style. Bob Tiltons '68 SWB silver 911L is my inspiration. My questions is do I keep the original Albert Blue or change to a silver like Bob's car when I repaint? Silver is the only other color I would do on this car. I've seen alot of silver Porsches but not so many Albert Blue ones so maybe this is a rare color? What do the Pelicans think...
Oh I'm new to the BBS, is it Pelicans, Pelicanites, Pelicanheads, or... And one more thing, I'm in Sac. and I'm going to the Silver Star swap this Sunday with the car so if any from the area is going let me know.

Oh, I like Albert blue. No doubt about, I'd keep that color.
Post some pics if you've got 'em and welcome to the bbs! Markus '80 SC Targa |

If mine were originally Albert Blau (it's silver now, and a very very poor paint job at that), I'd be taking it back to blue!
In fact, it's second to the original color of my car, Signal Orange.

If you are going to repaint, you should get the car the color you really want. That said, a proper color change is a PITA and involves engine, suspension removal and significant work. I personally love blue cars-- classy and unique with depth.

Welcome to the forum, and definitely post some pics of your ride.
Look at this Albert Blue Coupe (seen at Ventura) and tell me you'd prefer silver. ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by jkarolyi; 09-12-2005 at 10:09 PM.. |

color choice has to be the second hardest decision other than engine size. for me there was no other color and no one could convince me to paint it anything but silver. my car was originally aussie blue which is a nice color but as i said my heart was always set on silver. i think whatever you decide it will be a nice car either way - maybe even more memorable in albert blue. |

I think Albert Blue is one of the best early blues - keep it original!

Thanks for all the input! That Albert Blue coupe is awesome, that is what I'm talking about, you just don't see many in that color! I like the blue and I guess I just needed some input and to see what mine could look like with a proper paint job so I believe it will remain BLUE!

My 70 S coupe was originally Albert Blue (1818). When I became the second owner in 1989, it had a really terrible repaint in the same color; and would obviously need a complete repaint to be minimally presentable anywhere but on a racetrack.
I had the car completely stripped and repainted in Silver Metallic, everywhere, and the work was above excellent. Having said all that, I today wish that I had chosen to stay with the Albert Blue.

Mine is an original Albert Blue car according to the paint code. It's a shade or two off right now with a marginal re-spray, but in some lighting looks very close. I say no contest; Albert Blue. It is a somewhat rare color.

This thread has helped me to also decide on the color I'll keep. My car doesn't really show it well as it's pretty rusty. So in the restore, it'll go Albert blue once again.

Mycar,
Your car is stunning, no question that it is an outstanding and unique color - although I personally believe that a 911 looks good in any color - remember all those pastel IROC cars of 1974? |

Love it. I'm still thinking about adding a little something though. My car will have a 3.0 turbo I'm building, should I go a little wider than stock? At first I was going to go rsr wide but my budget doesn't like that. I'm thinking about a slight flare in back. Like a carrier flare. Hope it doesn't Hurt the value. I want little more grip. Should I?

I wouldn't. There's a few here that have plunked a big engine in a narrow car. I imagine it's a bit interesting at times if you have a heavy right foot though...
This '73 turbo hotrod is one of them. ![]()
