Cool 911 Rear Window Seal

I am in the process of doing a headliner job on my '80 SC coupe
(all glass out, of course) and have new seals for all four pieces of glass. The rear window is heated, with the old seal having small holes molded into it for the heater wires to thread through. The new seal does not have the wire routing holes made into it. Does one (A) attempt to punch/cut holes into the new seal, (B) roll up the wires and forget the rear defroster, or (C) route the wires differently someway? After checking with several vendors and one real authorized Porsche dealer, it appears that there is only one seal (911 545 225 00) currently available which is the one without the wiring holes. Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Fred, you are a brave man! My saga of the rear seal began when a friend pointed to some cracking in the right lower corner of mine, asked: "When are you going to fix that?" I should have sent him the bill...but I now know he'd never pay it anyway. My solution was to find a man who had been there & done that while restoring his own '73....and I'm glad he liked me & my car, or he wouldn't have done it. Going only by his description, the process involved a thick needle, and careful threading of wires...very detail & labor oriented. I really can't give any more details ...other than knowing the job is NOT an easy one! Paying the bill wasn't easy either. But if you want true talent & skill, I guess you have to pay for it.

Thumbs up

Just did a headliner and rear window seal in August. Punched a tiny hole in the seal, thread in the wires, and installed it. Had my teenage son help me, but no real headaches. Make sure you use string in the grooves of the seal to install it. It took maybe a half hour to get the window in.
