4.3MM or 6.5MM Seal for Fender to Cowl?

Hey All,

I was wondering if anyone knows which seal is the proper one for the Fender to Cowl seal on my baby 85?

PAG shows 4.3MM or 6.5MM piping for the seals.

TIA

Jim

I was purchasing these seals recently myself and wondered the same thing. I did find a reference somewhere stating that the larger ones were "optional but recommended", with no indication as why this may be. Google the part number and you will find the reference near the top from another well-known vendor.

From the picture, the 4.3mm part (901-503-394-22) appears as though it may be better suited for replacing with the fender in place as you would not have to completely remove the one fender bolt to insert the seal. The 6.5mm part (911-799-503-07) has a hole rather than a slot, so the bolt would have to be completely removed. Since my fenders were off the car, I opted for the 6.5mm seals. I have not installed them yet so I have no comment on how they fit.

Thanks Frank for the quick post, I really appreciate it.

My baby is at the body shop and they plan to slide the seal in place so I guess the 4.3MM has to do or they will need to pull it part to make it fit correctly or slot it ( which is total waste ).

Let them decide - just tell them there are two of different thicknesses. That's what I did.

I think you may just have to try and see

I just want the proper seal. The deal is I have to get the part for them but PP Sales did not know either so I figured I ask here.

I will have them measure the removed seals.

Ah wisdom of SloDave :-)

Would love to but no hood, no bumber, , no head lights, no flashers, stripped paint, no Fender to Cowl seal.

Hopefully after Friday, need to get her ready for NYD Fun Run!

What are you doing? Where did you lose all the parts? Less play, more drive...

Get 'er done! I haven't seen you in years! It's no wonder.

SUB Advice:
IF size(old seals) >= 4.3mm
THEN
Execute Big_seal_buy
ELSE
Execute Gamble
ENDSUB

The narrow seals come on the early cars (don't know the change date) and I think my SC had the narrow seals but may have shrunken. I put the wider seals on my car without having to remove the fender, I just loosened up the last several bolts and pulled the fender out a bit. If there is a hole rather than a slot for the fastener just cut the hole open and make it a slot, it has nothing to do with sealing out moisture. The wider seals look nicer and do a better job of sealing the top gap of water.
