Seating Solutions for Aching Shoulders?
On drives greater than 2 hours my 50+ yr old shoulders start to really ache. I have 3 year old Recaros with inflatable lumbar supports, so broken down seats is not the problem. I have unsuccessfully tried raising the seat back to the point where my head hits the headliner on bumps and lowering it as far as it will go, moving the seat forward so my arms are correctly bent per PCA driver education sessions, as well as adjusting the incline of the seat back so it's nearly vertical as well as back by a few degrees - hitting the harness bar, as well as all combinations. I am findinig this very frustrating as it really interfers with my enjoyment. Any one else had this and found a solution? (Breath not being held)

I'm afraid I don't have any answers for you, but I do have questions. What kind of driving are you doing when you incur the pain? If it is very spirited, perhaps upper body strength needs some attention. If you are just cruising along something else is at work. Does the seat "pinch" your shoulders together? I don't get the pain you describe and I'm a lot older, so something is peculiar. I would look outside the box and consider other factors beside the standard seat adjustments. Do you get this in a car with standard Porsche seats?

You are out of shape. Go to a good physical therapy and wellness center and have one of the specialists give you some exercises to strengthen your shoulders, legs, back, neck and whatever ills you.
Or replace the seats with original. Or buy a 928. They are a great road car and don't dance all over place like a 911.

I found that my steering wheel spacers helped reduce arm fatigue on long drives. I have about 2 7/8" of spacers and a dished sparco steering wheel. I don't think I could stand to go back to the stock driving position.

I've found that adding a Smart Racing RSR footrest and a Rennline adjustable throttle pedal have really improved how I sit in my car. I'm able to sit with both feet on the same plane so that my hips aren't twisted in the seat, and I'm able to brace in corners with my left foot so that I'm not holding myself in place with the steering wheel and my shoulders. The extension on the throttle pedal also allows me to heel-and-toe naturally without having to extend and twist my right leg. These two mods made a significant difference in both comfort and control.

Have to agree with the "standard seats" question. I'd say get some sport seats; REAL GOOD condition ones, unless you are of such size that they don't suit you. It sounds really like you might even be too big and tall for a 911! Just a guess; but I think original stuff might very well suit you (or anyone else) better for just cruising. Also, no matter what kind of car or truck I've ever driven, I've always been better off driving with my left hand, then my right, etc.......
