long-term storage of leaky engine
I'm planning a complete strip-down and repaint, etc. of my '79 Targa. My engine has recently developed a fairly substantial oil leak. I plan to pull the engine and may or may not rebuild it. What is the best way to store the engine and not leak oil all over my garage floor while it sits awaiting its fate?

You will drain the oil out of the engine to remove it, so leave the oil out. If you have an engine stand, tilt the engine from one side to the other (maybe with the lower valve covers off) to get all the oil out of the sump, nooks and crannies.
My leaky engine was out for a couple months, but since the oil was drained there was nothing left to leak. This will not harm the engine if you have a reasonably dry place to put it.
