Pete,

One other question - I have to use ramps to do my work under my car - any issues filling the gearbox with a small nose down angle??

Generally, any LSD that requires a friction modifier. This discussion revolves around factory units...for example, the Kendall additive is mixed at one ounce/pint of trans oil (about 6 oz for a 915).

You have to be careful when using ramps, the fill spec I use is to the bottom of the fill plug opening on a level trans. If you can get a floor jack under the nose of the car (or its belly further back - use great care to not damage the car!) it would certainly help. I guess if you can get three liters of oil into the trans you should be OK, but I've always filled them until the oil runs out of the fill plug hole.

Hi all from Australia, I have a 69 Targa with 3.2 and 915 upgrade fitted, how do you know if you have LSD,we use to jack up the car look for metal tag fitted to the diff housing with part number and if both rear wheels rotated the same directional way it was LSD, I`m not sure with the 911,can anyone enlighten me ?
Many thanks brett in Cairns Australia

I raised the front and placed ramps under the front tires then I raised the rear at the engine using a pad until I got Zero Degree rake at the door sill (level).

Opened the fill port and a bit of fluid started to drip out, re-plugged the port by hand then I proceeded to open the drain plug.

I highly recommend you make certain the fill port is accessible because if you drain and can't open the fill port you are SOL. Freakin Downtown L.A. Wrench over torqued the fill port the first time I changed the fluid myself.

I used an old emptied and cleaned radiator fluid 1 gallon container and pump with hose to fill 3.25 quarts of Kendell 80W90 and mixed in 6 ounces of Kendell LSD additive.

Crawled under the car on a cardboard matt then pumped away until it started to drip out the fill port. Wait till the drip slowed then plugged her up to 18lb Torque fill and drain plugs.

Drove around and immediately felt a smoother shift, even going into reverse was right on, it use to grind a bit going into reverse.

Besides mixing the Lube and LSD additive, it only took less than an hour allowing the old fluid to completely drain. Actually work under the car maybe 20 minutes. :-)
