List the Bentley 911 SC Manual Errors.

I'm fed up with the errors in the manual. List the errors you've found in the manual......I'll go first. These are just the latest.....there are many more.

1) Page 280-2.

Firing order and dizzy rotation is wrong.

2) Page 971-5

Rear fuses are wrongly labeled

If I get a decent response, I'll forward them to the publisher. IMHO, they republished the Carrera manual with some different pics.

What does it say about the rotation and firing order?

Joe Bob 12-15-2010 08:11 AM

SC's are opposite the 3.2. It lists the 3.2 information.

Don't have it in front of me.....but the wire numbers for the A/C relay (in the smugglers box) are labeled wrong.

kodioneill 12-15-2010 08:33 AM

Wiring diagram doesn't show the engine compartment light wiring.

The Bentley web-site has an "errata" page. If you find other errors you can send them a message pointing it out.

Bentley Errata

Errata sheet.

Bentley maintains an errata sheet here.

Especially horrific is the overtorque figure for the axle shafts. The SC manual was a cut and paste from the Carrera manual, with minimal corrections. Sad, but the best book out there excepting the factory manuals.

YES! Took me forever to figure out what was wrong...

BTW, this Bentley Error thread was done here a couple years ago... could not find it quickly, but it's there. Several pages of stuff.

re:seat belt/brake dash light assembly

Beware on how the Bentley book tells you how to remove this to change bulbs. At least for my car (1982 911 sc), all you have to do is pop the red lense off to replace wedge base bulbs. I didn't know this and trying to push the assembly out of the dash from behind (as Bentley said)
cracked and lost the fingerboard the the plug connects to. This is twice this book led me down the wrong path (1st time was mirrors). Just an fyi

Also everything having to do with the interior. All of the information for the dashboard, kneepads, door panels, door tops, vents, etc. are ALL from the 85.5-89 Carrera.

It's useless if you are trying to figure out how to take apart the dash - especially with how difficult the knee pads can be to remove.

Actually, there are 2 editions of the SC Bentley, at least... the earlier versions (Gray cars on the cover) is more accurate, especially the interior.

The later edition (the cars on the cover are in color) have some Carrera misinformation in them instead of SC info.

At least that's been my experience... not sure all all-Gray covers are the old edition. But that's my experience.

Corrections - Porsche Repair Manual: 911 SC Coupe, Targa, and Cabriolet: 1978-1983 *-* Bentley Publishers - Repair Manuals and Automotive Books

Joe Bob 12-16-2010 09:31 AM

So, they admit to TWO mistakes AND still want 120 bucks for it? Gimme a break.

Best part "corrections are in red".......nothing is in red.

UrQuattro 12-16-2010 09:33 AM

Hmm.... Well, they are missing the problems with the interior.

And just to add some info to the thread, I must have a late greyscale covered book, as it has the problems with the interior as ive noted.

Does the most recent edition have this area corrected? (I know, it's a fairly minor section when it comes down to it, but I'm just wondering)

Dunno, I got one of the first manuals off the press. Did I really pay 120 for this POS?

Wavey 12-16-2010 09:38 AM

Here's another thread from a few years ago. Several torque spec are wrong too.
