New to me 911 FABCAR 993!

Sold Bandit to a private equity guy,

bought The last of the non-factory tube frame GTs, Fabcar 993. Really high level build. Built in the mid 1990s at a cost in excess of $250K. The person who originally commissioned the building with Paul Willison who also built the engine, left it sit for years and years in Willison's shop. It was club raced only 12 times, reconditioned by Willison and IMSA driver of the year Jack Lewis bought it in 2015 and club raced it total of 7 times, Jack's wife Helga raced it one of those seven times and came in 3rd GT-2!

Car was delivered from SoCal yesterday I drove it about 6 miles to get it home. What a beast

Shame, I cannot upload pics here anymore. No matter the size doesn't work.
Oh Well.

See it on Instagram if you wish. @the_r_institute1

Ok that worked!

Background on this build as I was also mailed all history as well, letters, log book, receipts.

Real deal race car and nicer than expected as I bought it without checking it out in person. Thank you Jim Torres Racing. Great guy..

Began like as a SPORTSCAR series IMSA pro car GT-3 build at a "cost in xs of $250k in the mid 90s" this is written in an email I have on file from original owner prior to Jack Lewis buying the car in 2015.

The car sat when new in Willison's shop for many years unused. Paul Willison built the motor, (3,6) for GT-2 the 935 transaxle sourced from Bob Akin.

Didn't work, trying again to load pics
Anyway, this car was raced GT2 12 times, refreshed in 2015 by Willison and then sold to Jack Lewis in 2015. Jack only club raced it 6 times one race was rained out. He had 3 firsts of the 6, his wife Helga raced it one of these and came in 3rd.

I'll show why it runs nice and cool soon with pictures.

The body was by A.I.R. and hand done by the then owner and genius fiberglass man Dan.
Air is ducted into the coolers very well
The body is very robust and sockets together.

Just tuned PMOs, runs FABulous! @the_r_institute1

Jack Lewis's FABCAR 993 with "935 transaxle"

I don't like the locked diff at all and will need to get it back to something more manageable (split)

Makes all those noises is reverse when wheels turned, seems to be overkill. It's 100% locked diff.

Any advice is appreciated. My last 4 speed had a 70/30 split which was perfect.

Nice car, I bet she is a blast to drive!

Being a full tube car, assuming she’ll be for track/race use only?

Based on your pictures, it's very unlikely that car has a spool in it. It's not running the titanium 935 axles.

Furthermore, my sales records have me selling Jack an LSD fall of 2015. I think it's got my LSD in there, likely set to 50/80, which would almost act like a spool if driving in reverse.

All my LSDs have dual ramp selection, and if you don't like the 50/80, you can open it up and retune it to 40/60. The ring gear has to come off to adjust it, but shouldn't take more than a few hours, nonetheless.

BTW, no such thing as 70/30 I've ever seen. Factory ZF LSDs rare either 40/40 or 80/80. My units are 40/60, 50/80 and 80/80 (by special order).

So what are your plans for the car? ...seems it is meant primarily or only for race or track use.

Impressive piece of machinery.

Thank you Matt.

That's good news and when Jack bought the FABCAR.

Which LSD product of yours did you sell him? Pro or Club?

The clutch is a bit harsh on take off (really bites) in 1st but once rolling it's fine. I'm sure it's a racing clutch in there. I tried calling Jack Lewis yesterday but he was on the road and spoke to Helga his wife. Nice lady.

I made lexan quarter windows like the mid engine car's over the weekend, I'll be doing the same for the rear glass and not using the rubber gaskets. Front will also likely be done. Engine in this car runs fantastic.

I'm getting it "street legal" also.

I need a set of 993 headlights if anyone has them. I posted in classifieds

I'd like to get comfortable driving this car on street, will add lightweight sound deadening under the aluminum firewalls out of view. Very little weight added and I'm making up for that w lexan.

The clutch is on or off, I'd prefer something more tame, and adjustment of the LSD is needed. The 4 speed shifts great and no weird noises. Engine sounds angry!

I will upload a video when tuning PMO Induction

Thanks

Bandit sold well at 160k but that money was gone a week after it was wired. Bought my 21 year old son a house to renovate and live in for a few years in Manayunk (Philly)

I will see that money someday, but as far as racing goes it only requires money.

I'm self employed and can say without a doubt everyone is broke. Except the guy that bought Bandit.

My son Matt is a great kid and was a big help out in SoCal (he thought California was weird)

That's my boy!! PS my 19 yr old daughter loves the FABCAR too! No pics of her here.
