Exhaust from defrost vents

After driving and park, exhaust fills the car through the defrost vents near windshield.

Can anyone take all pics of where I can replace piping?

Sounds like you will need a new exhaust. Possibly take it to a good welder.

You need to start with your heat exchangers. If the exhaust system is intact, there should be no way for the exhaust to enter the the fresh air side of the system.

Probably oil dripping on your heat exchangers (smoke) rather than exhaust.

Yep, that’s my bet, too. Clean the drips and see how it is afterwards.

I do this once a year, with brake cleaner spray. Tiny drips eventually accumulate enough to smoke when hot (and enter the cabin via heat system).

When I catch a whiff of “exhaust” while using the heater, I know it’s been a year and it’s time to wipe the drips off.

Better if you can show pics of the HE and the hoses connected to them in your car.

i cut the heat shrouds from my 81 after i switched to SSI's. what i found was a ton of pinhole in the old manifolds, not good to pump that exhaust into the cabin. not cheap to fix the old ones.

You might check to see if your heat vents are stuck closed (system “on” , letting the exhaust fumes in). Not sure if you have autoheat, but that might be malfunctioning if you have it.

You’ll need a new exhaust or a great welder and to fix any oil leaks you have as well.

To everyone, thanks. Sounds like I should check the exhaust...?

I have a rather fair oil leak covering the passenger side exhaust cat?/pipe..I suppose it’s smoking in through the slightly open heater vent?
