Replacing busings in Shift Coupler
Hello all,
I am attempting to replace the bushings in my shift coupler, how do I remove the center pin? I think I can punch it out, but I don't want to risk damaging the coupler or the pin. I can't see any snap rings, thanks for the replies. Here is a picture of my shift coupler. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1292795333.jpg |
Use a press. No pins are holding it in.

That's the ticket, thanks for the tip about the deep well socket.

There's nothing wrong w/ that coupler bushing ;)
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/569092-915-worst-shifting-transmission-ever.html It will come out eventually, the socket, heat, PB Blaster....just keep at it. |
I used this and it worked like a charm - using a small socket as suggested:

I posted about a new trick I found a couple of months ago. I have done a bunch of these on a press, but for ****s and giggles, I recently tried pushing out the pin with an air hammer, and a blunt punch. It works like a charm, and is way easier, and faster than using a press. Just put the steel part of the coupler in a vise, and tighten it pretty good, then drive the pin out with the air hammer using a blunt nosed punch. Comes out like butter, and goes back in just as easy. I probably have done 4-5 of these since I first tried it, and it works sweet.

You probably have the pin out buy now, but the fastest method is to catch the square section in your vice and use a small drift to tap the pin out. (Fastfred is using a little more technology, but the same method.)
Assembly is the reverse. Takes a few seconds each way. Les |
