Looking to the BBS before I cut and weld. I have a 22mm Weltmeister rear anti-sway bar with adjustable link that I am installing on a 1969 911S with the original steel arms. The stock bars snap onto a ball on the end of a pin arrangement at the C-arm via a shackle or link, sort of like carburetor linkage. It looks like the later cars and the Weltmeister links are designed to slide over a pin or stud (no ball). The Weltmeister links have a rod end/spherical bearing on each end of the link for adjustment.
As this must be a common modification/update for those of you with early 911s – how have you done this? It does not look like the ball/pin would press out of the early C-arm. I was thinking about cutting and welding (grafting) the early upper end of the link onto the threaded link. It would still be adjustable at the bottom – and as it would be in tension and compression – strength should not be a significant problem. Any help is appreciated. Speaking of help – many thanks to all those who have posted rebuild info as you have done projects.... or just seem to know it all (i.e., Warren). I am generally a tacit daily reader and have used information from the web site to disassemble, clean/paint, rebuild – except engine and trans on this old car – learning as I go. Also thanks to Wayne and all the folks at Pelican Parts! PS - Anyone going to the Porsche Rennsport Reunion at Lime Rock? Anyone driving up from the south – although I think I will rent a van and bring my sons rather than take either of the Porsches. ------------------ Joe Riley 84 Carrera Targa 69 911S Coupe http://members.rennlist.com/911andson/ |

The Weltmeister rear bars I'm familiar with have drop links that bolt to the spring place where one of the 'eccentric' bolts normally is. No fabrication/drilling/cutting is required. You may be missing some of the hardware for the bar!

The Weltmeister links have a rod end/spherical bearing on each end of the link for adjustment.
The rear sway bar link only has a single spherical bearing on its upper end. The lower end that attaches to the sway bar is a rubber bushing. As Chris Campbell said, seems like you're missing the WM eccentric mounting bolt that replaces the factory-installed eccentric. The Weltmeister piece has a 5/16" female thread. The upper sway bar link attaches to this via a 5/16" allen head bolt that goes through the upper rod bearing then threads into this opening. You'll notice the spherical bearing has a 3/8" I.D. WM supplies spacer collars that allow the smaller dia. bolt to fit into the bearing and also allows greater bearing angularity than without. I've always thought the 5/16" bolt a little puny for this application. In addition, I think the supplied spherical bearing is on the low end of avail. materials. Anybody have any "experiences" with this size bolt? Sherwood Lee http://members.rennlist.org/911pcars |

Joe,
Is the Weltmeister bar you have a new kit, or a used bar off another car? It sounds like you have the bar for SC and later cars where the spherical rod-end would bolt to the 'eyelet' on the aluminum control arm. ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |
