Porsche on the prowl...

Tonight my first p-car sighting was at Wal-Mart... another early 944 just like mine only brown. It was parked in the opposite aisle as mine and I naturally went to check it out. I said "gee what a nice choice... hey that's the same as my car!" The girl I was with laughed at me and said "oh wow that's funny... let's go" (it was a kind hearted poking fun at me) Then while leaving as a 928 went by I said "Hey! A 928!" She said what's that mean... (yea I know, girls just don't understand) I said- um.. It' a car. Then when I saw a boxter from a far and pointed it out she laughed at my excitement. Yes I am obsessed. Not only do girls not understand but neither do most people in general. I think of it this way.... If I am obsessed with these high cost, pricey to maintain machines, and I want to have many of them at once, and at no point will I not want another than I will always have proper motivation to succeed. (people laugh at me when I tell them that and say... I can't believe you actually put that much thought into it) What can I say- Porsche for life.

Pat

Get this, in my parking lot at work (maybe 250 cars) there is a Platinum 944, my Phoenix Red 914, and a Tangerine 912.

Across the street is a Boxster.

It's a virtual who's-who of "entry-level" Porsches.

The other day I was pulling up to a light and realized there were 5 911's all at the red light at the same time, all in the same lane on the same side of the street...just sitting there! Everything from a early 70's model to 2 996's. Not surprisingly, only those of us driving older models even looked at each other and started laughing. The 996'ers acted as if absolutely nothing odd had happened and looked straight ahead.
I keep hoping someone with a 996 will return a wave but no such luck.
Later,

It's the responsibility of every father to train his daughter(s) in the proper spotting and appreciation of the marque.
I'm happy to report that my 7 year old girl knows the difference between a 911SC, a 993 twin turbo, a 996 and a Boxster. She regularly spots these cars and points them out to my wife.

Too true, my daughter is just over two now and she can identify, 911's. She can't tell the difference between them but they are all "look daddy there's a pawsh"

So by the time she's 15 she'll be doing valve adjustments

Last night I was driving on the freeway late. Had the usual attitude...and a 996 started giving me the rush. Blowing by...I floored it and challenged him.

I have hoards of confidence in this baby these days. Zipping through the sparse traffic, he gave out before I did. Too bad.

If I had his 996, I'd have spanked me hard. There ought to be no challenge there, but he just didn't have the guts. We never went beyond 95Mph or so--still too fast for you, 996 boy?

And when I see a boxster, my eyes narrow not unlike those of a cat spotting a wounded bird.

I reserve my enthusiasm for older Porsches--don't see too terribly many....but the 996s and Boxsters? Pests to be swatted.

Come to Zurich.

On my 10 minute walk to work I never fail to see at least two 911's. During the course of a day I always see between 4 and 8 porsches, 911, 944, 924 and 928 - never seen a 914 yet.

Oh and there are loads of trick Audi's. Nearly EVERY Audi A4 estate - the avant? - is either the S4 or RS4, easily identified by 18" alloys and huge flares (RS4).

Usually see a Diablo tooling around town as well.
