? for alarm experts
I have an older Clifford Concept 10 alarm that seems to have bad remotes. Only 1 was working and I think its failed now b/c alarm will arm itself and I can still use the valet switch to turn it on and off. My question is can a remote be tested? The local Clifford dealer, not surpisingly, suggests just buying a new alarm.
TIA

I have an older Clifford on my 86' 911 cab and I went to my local
dealer and he ordered a new remote for me. He also was able to get a copy of the original instructions for me and programed the new remote to work! Good Luck!

On most clifford alarms, options are turn on and off by toggling the valet switch with the ignition key in the "on" position. For example, to turn auto-arming off, turn key and flip toggle 4 times (you should hear 4 chirps). You should hear a 5th chirp 3 seconds later to confirm your setting. That might be handy to set until you get a replacement remote/battery. You can also turn off the arm/disarm chirp (silent arming) on most models as well. Just flip the switch 6 times. If you get a new remote, you can program it the same way. I think you flip the toggle 13 times, then press button #1 on the new remote.

i'm about 90% positive that the clifford concept 10 was sold only through cuircut city or best buy, but i wouldn't go back to them for new remotes since clifford is no more. the problem you're going to run into is that clifford technically does not exist anymore, they were bought out by directed electronics (viper/sidewinder/etc.) and were dismantled. i would find a dealer that used to deal with clifford and see what they say. parts are hard to come by anymore and i'm not sure if other clifford remotes will be compatable with that system.
if your valet switch is the clifford toggle type (pos.1 latched/pos.2 latched/pos.3 momentary) i would make sure to get the actual programming guide for your system, the newer clifford systems have a multi-step menu system and it is easy to really mess it up if you do not have the correct programming guide. a clifford dealer will have a "master binder" of the clifford alarms that they sold so you should be able to find a dealer that has the correct info. good luck bell (mobile electronic specialist for 11 years) 85' targa |
