3.2 carrera (ICV) idle control valve Imitation

I think the time has come to change my ICV its causing hunting and hanging rpm. Usually works for a while when i clean it out (month or so) then goes back to it's usually ways.

I was looking online and find that most are about 400-500 for a new one!!

Going onto Ebay i found this unit:
Idle Air Control Valve for Dodge Eagle Volvo Peugeot Porsche 13170679 0280140501 | eBay

At under $100 bucks!! it's tempting, although i would consider this as a core piece in a Porsche engine bay. Just wondering if anyone has used these imitation Bosch ICV and if they re any good/ worth buying.

Shipped from China. At that price, have almost nothing to lose.

Except a possible damaged DME control unit.

Well CCB, do you remember the price of the ******** part? It's out of stock and they don't show a price. Lowest price I could find was $389.

At that price, you might as well buy a used complete 3.2 intake and sell off the other bits.

My advice is to get an original Bosch valve, many of our cars still have the original 30 years later! I doubt any of the aftermarket cheap valves are as well made. Personally I'd prefer a working used valve over some aftermarket valve.

Did you try bench testing it? I wrote this procedure up a few years ago:
Bench testing Carrera Idle Control Valve

You just need a 9volt battery to test the valve.

Hey Ck, two other conditions can make the engine hunt, vacuum leaks and mixture.
Zero cost to look for typical vacuum problems.
Zero cost to adjusting mixture.
Both stop hunting at idle problems.

That current price is crazy. I bought this 930-606-161-00-M14 in Oct 13 from Pelican for $196. now NLA.

This Bosch part # 0280140520 may also work. It's a Volvo valve but looks a lot like our 911 one.
Search rock auto they have it for $145. You can always return it if it's wrong.

Here's what it looks like
https://www.********.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=283572&jnid=4&jpid=10
The only thing I notice different is the label and it's labeled on the side with the flow direction arrow, while the stock 911 has the label the other side without the arrow. I have a 911 valve in my hand and compared it to the picture. Can't be 100% but this Volvo valve looks correct. Not the first time Bosch had identical parts with different numbers.

Rich,
Are you talking about the idle mixture (%CO) on a DME car that supposedly should be adjusted using a gas analyzer? Can that be done successfully without such a tool?

Hey jhoag, yep it can be done by ear...with a 3mm Allen... I do it once a year when the temperature changes. My plugs are a light chocolate color....

It can also be adjusted with a Wideband O2 gauge, target a mixture of about 14.2-14.4AFR and your very much near the 0.8% CO spec

Another decent way to get in the ballpark is with a decent Digital volt meter that can read 0-1000 millivolts (0-1v). If the stock O2 sensor is in decent shape you can measure the output voltage of the stock sensor with it disconnected. If the mixture is rich you will read >0.7v if lean <0.3v so while you measure the voltage you turn the Air By-pass screw all the way in on the Air Meter (clockwise) this should send the mixture rich. Then turn the screw out till she leans and stop, then turn it back in till she richens to 0.7vdc then turn the screw to a point in the middle of the lean and rich points, maybe just a tad on rich side.

This is a poor mans way to set the base mixture, it will be in the ballpark.
I always recommend you remove the AFM from the car first, then count the number of turns (clockwise) till you bottom out and write this number down. This lets you record exactly where the screw is before you start messing with it.

The Bosch part number is 0280140501. Used on lots of Volvos in addition to 911s and 944s.
Not surprisingly, the guys parting out 911s usually want $100+, whereas the Volvo and 944 guys usually sell them for under $50.
