Based on the small amount of info you posted, worth $9K-$12K retail. Trade in, oh probably $6K.

Unless you are planning on trading your car into a speacialty shop (ie a shop that carries older cars), you are going to get hosed.

I hate to tell you this, but you will do much better selling her outright! I ran into the same problem myself a few times...

Good Luck!

Sell it here. Post pictures and we'll see.

Agreed. dealerships are called "stealerships" for a reason. You'll be able to get more for it selling here or Craig's list, and if you sell it here you get the additional non-monetary satisfaction of knowing it went to someone who cares about these cars.

And while I'm not sure what you're in the market for, I'd also suggest (unless you want something brand-spanking new) purchasing your next vehicle from a private party. I've always had great luck going that direction, although for some people it's a scary experience.

Good Luck!

definately sell it privately!
Back in 2001 I was offered $13K for my 86 ragtop carrera traded against the retail price for a new VW GTI at a dealership.
I was so disgusted, I advertised it for $16K, sold it 1 wk later.
Returned to the dealership with my cash and got $3K off the retail price of the VW!!
Trading in a car is often a weak standpoint for the buyer.
If you walk in with cash/check you are in a more powerfull bargaining position
Just my experience
Ben

Books and records are meaningless on a trade-in, all go in the dumpster.

All the dealer is thinking is "this is going to be a lot harder to sell than a Civic".

Sell privately or get hosed.

When selling, expect the buyer to demand and pay for a PPI. If you're buying your next car the same way, expect to pay for a PPI from an independent shop (so you are in control of the information). Good luck with the sale.

Wonderful and horrible news, but you'll pull through and look back to the time with your new child longingly when you're my age. Good luck with the baby, the job search, and the sale.

I'd be surprised if a dealer gave you more than $2000 for her and even then I would assume whatever you were buying is more than $2000 over it's worth! Sell it here, get what she is currently worth, and feel good when it's over (I hope).
