What is the difference between the brown and black chain rails / ramps / guides?
 

Just curious and can't seem to find the answer. What is the difference between the brown and black timing chain rails / ramps / guides?

EDIT: Hang on, I think I see now, the black rails appear slightly "taller" than the brown rails.

It appears that the PO replaced all the rails with the brown version.

Anybody know the torque value for the ramp bolts?

EDIT: Found it; inner chain ramp bolt torque value is 18.4 ft-lbs.

Anybody have a good picture showing the correct ramp orientation?

black tall, brown short. brown goes in the right lower engine case. long ends point to the closest sprocket, so in the case, long ends inward, in the chain housings, outward.

Thanks JW! Actually, I just looked again and 5 are brown, one is black (the inner bottom right) AND the long ends were pointing outwards on the inner case rails! Talk about assbackwards!

Is there a specific torque to the inner ramp bolts?

Is there a "set in stone" color and position for these ? I have 2 browns on the inner passenger bank, and one brown inner drivers side. The rest are black.

As far as i can tell, this motor has never been apart.

Wonder why these motors are getting put together with the wrong parts ? Weather it be from the factory or independent repair shop.

Hi Tori..the problem is that everybody wants to be 911 mechanic...and if they are it is just by working on the 911`s but not really mechanic theories from school..in their brains...

HA! I love working on stuff,....... but believe me,....... being a 911 mechanic was not on my list. ;)

What i meant is as you said..... you go to shops and there are those wanna bees..not a regular dude who works on his 911 as a pleasure.......

oh i knew what you meant. I can't see being a shop owner/mechanic actually being able to charge enough to cover what's needed in caring for one of these motors properly. PHEW ! Lots and lots of time involved.
