I purchased a 915 Oil cooler (factory) Now How do I mount it ? + 930's LSD basic swap

I just purchased a 915 Oil cooler from a Euro 915

How do I mount it on my 1981 915 (non LSD) ?

I've been looking on this forum but haven't found a step by step but I did find how to mount an aftermaket one with pump n filter...ect

Also I read that you can switch out the 930 Turbo LSD with a 915 ???

Help

I read this one:

The "How to beef up a 915" thread. Parts and costs?

Anyone have a photo comparing the non oil cooler to the oil cooler version?

With the cooler did you get the sidecover and pump or just the cooler?

As Matt alludes to for the '85-86 euro 915 cooler, you need the sidecover and pump

Yup, you ALL the stuff not just the cooler. As to an LSD, take a look at the Quaife and Guard units. LSDs CAN wear out.

Also, while you have the 915 out, take a look at the IM bearings as well as gears, spiders, sliders and other doohickeys.

That ovaled bearing shell a big source of failure on high HP applications. Consider adding a retaining plate like the 930 trans has.

Yes I did get those parts in my purchase.

I'm just making sure I have everything and also how to do it.

This would be a pretty nice write up.
I'm thinking if trading my extra rebuilt G50-03 transmission for a rebuilt 915 so
I will do all the work to this transmission.

But I need a photo of a 915 transmission that shows how the oil cooler hoses connect...ect

Maybe also a photo of one disconnected so I can see how the factory "taps" and welds this...

Let me know if any one has this

Thanks

Keep on pelicaning!

HI Blackbyrd
if you fit the 930 LSD you will need to drill and tap the holes for the mounting bolts on the oil pump drive, also check the depth of the drive with the gear on the side plate, some work may be needed on the end plate of the LSD for a location recess to position the oil pump drive in the correct position for the drive gear, as from the photos you will also need the centre case for the oil return, unless you are fitting the Wevo oil spray bar kit into the end case, then the Porsche cooler is not needed and a oil fitting adapter is used and a short pipe to connect or a cooler in the rear wing/fender?

regards mike
