Porsche Crest Does anyone know if this is a factory carrera tail?

Thanks in advance for all help. I have several people interested in this tail I have listed and it looks like I have it sold regardless but it has me wondering; Is this a factory tail?

74-76 Carrera tail for sale $400

I have had 2 Porsche mechanics look at it now and both think it is an original piece.
I question it because everyone interested is asking me to find part #'s that don't exist or are covered in paint. And, the tail is completely fiberglass as far as I can tell. There is a steel captive nut plate for the mount to the hinge.

The quality seems exceptional and I do believe it could be a first run tail but does anyone know for sure?

Thanks,
Christopher

completely fiberglass = fake right off the mark, plus other details from the pics. There were , and still are, some very good manufacturers of aftermarket fiberglass tails out there.
The one you have has the nice detail of the underside panel (oem is removable metal) as part of the lid. The holes are for access to the rubber mounting studs. Most tail mfg. gave up that extra detail a long time ago

The rubber surround started with the porsche crest on the 3.3 "tray" spoilers, so without some better pics of that part, its hard to tell if the rubber is oe or aftermarket.

If you could show the tail as mounted on the car, thereby displaying how nice it fits, will help with your sale

Good luck with your sale

Absolutely not factory. But the rubber is NLA so if you have a good one, even aftermarket, it's worth some $.

Fwiw, if anyone ever runs across one of these at a swap meet and is thinking of putting one on their car, I can say they do line up very well on the car, at least this one did. I just wanted a stock lid on my narrow body e.

Real tail ?

Good info ! Another tell-tail is the rubber spoiler, if you look on the underside of it, just above the carrera 3.0 emblem, you should see a Porsche crest embossed in the rubber.

There is a porsche part number on the inside lip of the black rubber. I could send a pic of it also if you like.
