A 4 car garage in 7 days DIY.

I had limited time that I could take off from work so with a lot of pre planning and some air tools I dug up my vegetable garden and put together a home for my car in 1 week including the slab. My neighbour helped with the slab and roofing, the rest I was on my own. After the building was weather tight I took the time to make the side door and windows and install the siding. Next spring I will insulate, floor coat, and hopefully put install a lift. It fits 4 911's and not much else. So with only 1 car it's roomy.

Did you pour that perimeter sill at he same time as the slab or was it poured in two steps?

Thanks

Thanks for the compliments. The slab and 6 inch wide wall were done in 1 pour The plans were purchased on the web for about $70. with materials lists. I added a couple of windows. Excavation and slab $6K, framing $3K, door with opener $1.5K, roofing with ice membrane and shingles $1.2K , Western B.C. cedar siding 2K. A dry home for my Porsche ....priceless
All told so far about $15K Earlier I did an engine/tranny r+r on the ground. No fun!

that plywood was on the pricey side, no? i just used OSB for mine.
less than a week? trying to do it before the building inspector found ya? just kidding.
i cant seem to get my butt out of neutral to finish mine. these short, cold days have me unmotivated.

And hown much for the building permit application?....or is this an "Ooops" in the short time frame you had?. In my neck of the woods, if I can't produce that document.....they can have it torn down ! Gotta add to my taxable base....doncha know!

Very nice looking building, quick too. I really like the siding also, and the trim details.
I'd guess you will be able to have project car, shop space and park one other p-car. It is amazing how a space fills up once you start wheeling stuff into it. Nice job!

To t77911s the plywood was used only on the front face because that is the weak end of the garage with the 10 foot wide door opening it is for side wind loads. I got the building permit in no time at all when they saw the professionally drawn plans. I live in a suburb that has a 4 man office for permits and they get lots of crappy home drawn garage plans. As long as I respected the boundaries and heights they allow just about anything because the building is unoccupied. The permit was about 120 bucks. (in advance!)

Very tastefully done. I didn't know you could still get wavy butt siding.

i put hardy board on mine. i had some old cypress on the rest of the house that was in bad shape, so it was not that much more to replace that too.

do you have power to it? if not, i would run 240, you never know when you need it.

here is the link to my garage.

I have lots of power and lighting and an air compressor installed. Just no water. Do a search for cedar siding wavy edge. 10" was about $2.00/ft Home depot. I used that siding to match my house. The garage measures 17 X 33. Thanks again for compliments.

Good thread, Wally.

To everybody else: I've been in that garage and it looks much nicer in person than it does in the pictures. Great value for the money with all the expert work done on it by Mr. Red 2.7. The car looks nicer in reality, too.
