Overdue intro
Hello all, just wanted to formally introduce myself as I plan on spending alot more time frequenting the forums asking questions and looking for parts.
In August I came across an 82 911SC after looking at my options, what I should keep what I should sell, if I should get involved with another car, I went to look at the car with a friend who is very knowledgeable in European cars. I left that night in my new SC. The list of maintainance and care was encouraging and included the following: Full repaint early 2000s Full documented engine/tranny rebuild w less than 15k since rebuild. Short shift Newer style clutch Pop off valve Cam chain tensioner update Over 18k worth of receipts. The gentleman I purchased from was fighting a illness, and I didn't feel great about taking his pride and joy away. All in all I got a great deal on the car, the major reason (I believe) no one had purchased it prior to me was, the paint (bitter chocolate). I have driven and enjoyed the car, done almost nothing to it besides adding oil, washing, vacuuming and installing a Momo steering wheel, and adding some decals to break the brown a bit. So here's the breakdown on what's getting done and going to get done (subject to change as my mood strikes). My plan is to tidy the car up tastefully. Momo prototipo (installed) RS carpet kit (purchased) RS door panels (purchased) TRE RS front valance (purchased) Gutted the interior Saturday. Removed the rocker guards today. I'll try to keep the forum updated as the project progresses. I welcome any comments and will post pics soon. Thanks Brian |
Welcome. I believe it is now time to see pictures of the car.

Can't do a intro without PHOTOS and lots of;)
|
Welcome and it sounds like you are going to be busy for a while with that list of projects. Need to post some "Before" photos so we have some way to track your progress (and nitpick your work).
Also helps to add your Location to your profile |

I'd also like to say "THANKS" to the entire staff of Sports Car Restoration, (where I basically "intern") Stand up crew of dedicated hard working Artisans who work on these cars day in and day out.
Thanks Gents! |
Welcome to Pelican!
I normally would poo-poo large decals on the fender for a street car but the Goodyear and Flying Horse work nicely on yours.(My opinion means nothing to anyone but me, BTW.) Kind of turns it "vintage" without doing any bodywork. |

I appreciate that, I was looking to break up the brown a bit and hoping to give it a "vintage" classic feel. Im not easily offended! |
Very Nice, Welcome!
|
I like it a lot. I'm going to put my decals on magnetic sheet so I can put them on or take them off. Just a future project in my case. I like the decals.
|
Nice car!! Welcome to the forum and enjoy it!!
Keep the pictures coming as the work progresses... Very nice picture on the track by the way! |

Watch the brown comments .........
Nice car, by the way ..... Steve 1980SC- 451 (Mocha Brown) under cover as a 964 |
Very nice car and intro. Welcome aboard.
Chris |
Great looking car, looks like you are having some fun with it!!!
Cheers |
Nice car. Welcome to the forums! The brown is nice. I think it's a a cool, low key color - perfect with the cork interior. I vote for no rockers and stock bumpers. It gives it a sweet, vintage look
|
Welcome!
That SC looks almost brand new! |
I saw a really good looking metalic brown turbo 997 recently. It was a really nice color very similar to yours. I know you have a few years of not doing anything to it.... but... I think the brown would look really good with polished fuchs or even color matched or partial color with the paddles polished. thats not really "doing anything" ;)
|
Kemo thanks for the suggestion. The whole not doing anything, well I've given up on that for now! Work will be done.... We will see how far it goes.... And how far my budget can stretch!!!

Update.....
Front and rear valances en route from Dave at TRE, thanks Dave! I have been fighting with the mirror issue for a whole, keep them change them, get rid of them. The nthe other day while at SCR I was looking at the set off of the Rothmans, I was thinking outloud and made a comment about having a mold of them. Well mold is done mirrors are out, some fine tuning and they will also be on the list. Check them out, as always comments/concerns welcome. Bhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1296965642.jpg Mold fitted to car (oversized of course) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1296965829.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1296966005.jpg Out of the mold http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1296966097.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1296966170.jpg Side profile More to come, when I have time....http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1296966365.jpg Iced up |
I like that brown color, but don't think it goes well with chromed parts. Think black parts will work better with it. For ex you could change out the rims to the headlights with some matt black ones (similar to the 964 RS).
Looks like a really nice car, looking forward to see what you do with it. What color will the interior be? /J |

Here is my hand formed SCRS style mirrors, actually had a proper test fit and bracket mounts all set up today. Work is going alot slower than I was hoping for, but at lest things are getting done. Sorry for the poor pictures. I have some one off work that will be added to the project also. Stay tunedhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1297819980.jpg

Slow going progress, but have spent some time chasing some small surface rust areas out from under the front and rear end bumper mounting areas. Alls I can say is definitely check those areas thoroughly either prior to driving season (soon) or make a winter project out of it. Particularly where the charcoal vapor collector and the window wash reservoir sits!
Also built some sturdy mounts for the TRE front airdam, will post some pics soon! I still have a ton of parts available that I will not be using PM me with any needed interioir or front/rear bumper parts! I have a virtually spotless smiley I know someone needs! Brian |
So finished up the front end AC removal and welded up the holes. Sorry for the bad pics. Will post the TRE airdam with the nerf style mount I built in the next few days hopefully all in place.... things are going alot slower than I was hoping for and as always there never seems to be an end, just when you think you are done you find something else you can improve! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1300235938.jpg
Test fit http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1300235962.jpg Ready to tack http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1300235995.jpg tacked now ready to fine tune http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1300236021.jpg buttoned up and skim coat applied. epoxy prime and hit with sks. Hopefully alot more to come soon! Its getting too warm to still be working on it and not driving! |
Ah, Sepia Brown...looks good when kept up. Nice looking ride.
It's never finished BTW.....you just run out of money temporarily. |
Epoxy primed...
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1300441099.jpg Undercoating next. Its the little things that make the biggest difference, the AC system has been officially deleted. |
(hehe),..WELCOME!!!!!!!! KICK THAT BUTT!!!!!!!!

Nice work anyway.. looks like you've been plenty busy on that car "you decided to do nothing to for a couple of years." Doesn't take much to get started! What's the story with all the old Bimmers in the background? |
Nice car, and welcome. I like the colour, looks to be Rosewood Metallic. Same colour as mine, so I am a bit biased. I too wasn't going to do anything for a while. I am past that now and enjoying the ride down the slippery slope. Enjoy.
|
Haha. The color is suppose to be "bitter chocolate" a factory porsche color. I don't mind about the color, that will be changing shortly too! Like I said originally it was just goin to be a full interior resto, now well the plans are moving right up!
The BMWs in the background are mostly 2002s there are a few other rarer models kicking around. The shop is Sports Car Restoration Plainville, CT premier restoration shop for all things vintage BMW, and building quickly on Porsche. My friend Matt McGinn (owner) graciously allows me to work on my car and intern work on the rest of the line up. Check em out at sports-car-restoration.com |
So taking way too long to make any serious progress, but heres where Im at....
I must ad this was my first official patch, let alone a bend to match patch. Again, thanks to all my friends at SPORTS-CAR-RESTORATION for their continued guidance and allowance to grovel, while working off my internship with sanding and continuing to be the "unofficial, official coffee biooootch". http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301822811.jpg Front AC delete, AC we dont need no stinking AC. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301822873.jpg Nerf bar for under the TRE airdam bad pic Windows all coming from fellow pelicanite techweenie (rear and quarter lexan and straps) Muffler arrived from fellow pelicanite Lufeco, swapping parts is cool! The muffler may cause the front end of my car to raise 3-4 inches but I bet it will sound amazing! Yep and to think just in Nov. the plans where to get it in the shop to clean up the beat up interior...... |
And the rear bumper fitting, much less time Im getting better at this!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301824169.jpg
Bumper shock delete, straight to a more classic race style mount. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301824220.jpg nice tight fit http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301824255.jpg Hopefully the next pics I post will have some serious progress! By the way, anyone know where I could find one of these great looking 917 style shift knobs?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301824345.jpg |
OK....... SO I havent been around in a while.
Without further delay Here she is http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1326331973.jpg She is done |
