Bosch H4 Question - What do I need?

Pardon the ignorance, I haven't done a H4 swap before. About a year ago, I bought a collection of H4 stuff from a pelican. I got the stuff, and due to life madness, promptly stored it away for a "rainy day" project without really thinking what I got through. I also ordered from Pelican the relay kit and new seals for the glass (not shown in the photo). So with all the H4 posts going on, I figure I might as well get that project going. Here is what I got:



Unfortunately, from what I can tell I am missing some of the adjustment screws, but more importantly I am missing the main "adjustment ring", although I do have two of the "trim rings". The chrome "adjustment ring"shown on the bucket on the right is dented unfortunately.

I looked on pelican, and I don't see where I can order just the adjustment ring. Am I SOL?

Any ideas/thoughts appreciated

You will definitely need the main adjustment ring. I don't think it is available separately. You have two solutions in my mind a) dissect a parts diagram and shop around/swap meet/wrecker for the missing parts or improvise something or b) buy a single new H4 and use it as a template to make one good used one from the parts you have. It appears the trim rings are complete but you might need the special screw from the bottom of the assembly that IS available separetely.

I have the JW relay already....

Well poop on a stick. One of the reflectors/lense is brand new. I went back and looked at the add, the pictures were there, but it was listed as "assemblies part number 0 301 800 101", which I assumed were complete and I didn't ask the question in terms of what "ring" meant. I just assumed they were complete assemblies. So it looks like someone had the same problem, bought new assemblies, and took the adjustment ring, and then sold off the parts to a dummy like me....

Hopefully someone knows where to get the adjustment ring, or has two for sale.

Headlight relays are good and recommended *regardless* of bulb wattage. You don't want to run full headlight amps thru the dinky little stalk switch.

Just curious....euro delivery 911s. Did they come with relays or did they have more robust wiring?

I believe they came with the same wiring, no relays, but low wattage bulbs and therefore experience the same stalk burnout issues. Someone might know otherwise.

Well, I don't feel so stupid...I carefully looked at the pictures again in the original ad, and the buckets with out the adjustment rings were placed face down in all the pictures....So yeah, my bad for not completely clarifying everything and MOST importantly checking sooner, but still a bit lame in listing the part number which includes the rings.

Joe Bob, thanks for the advice, I contacted Pelican with their new issue tracking system - kind of cool to see that their business warrants investment in these types of systems....

Bummer, I heard back from Pelican, they don't have access to the parts, so it turns out by my own stupidity of not checking earlier, and by a fellow pelican who obviously trying "to pull a fast one", I got screwed.

So next question - are just reflectors and lenses (what you see in the pic) worth anything?

The chrome ring you reference in your photo is the same as the two white trim rings you have in your photo. Two buckets, two trim rings, and a handful of spring stays. What exactly are your missing? H4's are somewhat noncomplex items.
Can you post another photo with paired items, lenses, trim rings, buckets, so its easier to identify what you are missing. Adjustment screws or an acceptable equivelent, should be available through McMaster-Carr.

The white rings only have one screw hole at the bottom, where as the chrome ring has holes for the LR UpDown adjustment screws that screw into the bucket.

I "think" the white trim rings are to be used to cover a chrome ring if you want a colored ring? Here is the part number - 911-631-141-00-M260

When you look at the exploded diagram above part number 911-631-927-00-M14
I am missing the "inner ring" shown in the diagram....

I could be wrong, usually am.

OK, I see what you are saying, but look at p/n: 911-631-141-00-M260.
Until I get home, I cannot confirm from memory if there are what appears to be, a base and a cover trim ring. Its been about 4 yrs since I installed my H$, er ah, H4's. I'll chime back in later if someone does not beat me to it.

...There is a factory cover plate that fits around the outer headlamp rim (covering up the chrome or black) that is primered, and can be painted the color of your car. However, to install this cover rim, you also need to replace the single lower attachment screw for the entire assembly with the inner and outer screws listed below. The inner screw actually fits inside the outer screw and holds the primer ring to the assembly. The headlights come without bulbs.

Yeh, the lenses, external trim ring, inner/outer trim ring fixing screws are available separately - everything else only comes with a complete assembly.

Found that out when I bought a used set with reflectors that wouldn't pass inspection...
