Is this stub axle toast? Did I mention I hate doing the rear wheel bearing?
Hey guys,
Long and annoying story short, My car broke had broken hub, and the hub sheared at the stub axle/splined shaft (not too sure what to call it). At the time I removed it I was uncertain of whether or not I need a new stub axle. I got a new hub after a while, put in a new wheel bearing, pressed the hub in, I tried to get the stub axle into the hub so I could get everything back together but no luck. It won't go in, and after further inspection it looks as though the edge of the splines were shaved down. My question is do I throw it away and buy a new one? or should I try to take a dremel and clear the splines? Here are the pics. ![]() ![]() here's the other one for reference ![]()

I'd say clean the splines and use it. the splines are far from the weakest point in a 911 driveline.

clean it up, find the very worst area & post a pic of that

That whole area needs to be cleaned, and then properly torqued. It's easier with the right tools.

Ok, bought a dremel and fixed it.
Rusnak - that's the other side. I haven't gotten to it yet, but it will be cleaned and will get a new wheel bearing also. I have the wheel bearing tool and the other side was done outside of the splints needing to he cleaned up. |

Looks pretty beat where the flange meets the bearing.
