How do you reinstall the fan housing clip without scratching it?

I'm getting the clip painted but remembering how much of a hassle it was to remove, I'm wondering how I should proceed in order to reinstall it without scratching the new paint job. As I see on the pictures available in some other threads, obviously there is a method. Should I put some tape over the clip? Grease everywhere?

Are you referring to the strap securing the fan housing in the engine compartment? Have it powdercoated...much more durable than paint.

If you're referring to the clips that hold the cover on the evaporator fan housing, don't worry about it. No-one will ever see them again...

I'm with Danny, if you can get it powdercoated instead of regular paint it's easier.

If not, maybe some blue tape or something would give you a better chance. . . . .

Yes I'm referring to the strap that secures the fan housing. But even if it's powdercoated, I suspect that it will get scratched when reinstalling because the place is really thight.
