I think I found the first 911 motor

no bs. its 000000001. I have not seen it live and in person. Might be later today. Plugs out wont turn over. Stored inside. Not run in very long time. It is suppose to be in good shape otherwise. Other history unknown. Should I buy it as a cool keepsake. Any idea what I should pay? You can PM if the info should remain unseen.

Its from a late 60's car. I only really know 911's in the 80's ans would be really over my head on this and need input asap. What to look for.... Is it legit or not?

YTNUKLR 01-25-2011 10:37 AM

post a pic of the serial number, sounds interesting. it would have a high value if legit.

ken_xman 01-25-2011 10:40 AM

I have not seen it in person yet. Just spoke to the owner. If i go to look at it I might just buy it if I can. I wanted to know if it could be possible? Many guys on here know I am not a troll...fyi.

Ken,

Among all the other numbers, be sure and get the date code on the casting(s).

PLEASE take pictures of everything.

Best,
Grady

Hey Grady. The guy is going to take some pictures of the motor and numbers and I should have them later today. Can I call you. If so PM me. Thanks, Ken

Sub'd!

If it's from a late '60s car it isn't anywhere close to the first.

daepp 01-25-2011 12:42 PM

Would have to be from 1963 to first, yes?

Matt Monson 01-25-2011 12:46 PM

Late 60's with a serial number like that is more likely to be first engine made in a particular year than the first 911 engine every produced. I'll be watching this one curiously.

He said something about he thought it was a from a 911L. I am not sure what year that would actually be. What about if its some sort of replacement case theory?? How are those numbered?

djpateman 01-25-2011 01:39 PM

Does not sound like a valid #. The first production engine was 900101. The prototypes were lower than that though in the same series.
Look in this thread to find the correct numbers:
Third number on engine case - Pelican Parts Technical BBS

An L was from 1968 model year.
Replacement cases were not numbered.
