First you need to calibrate the flangeester valve, then take a reading from the wur.

Write: Warm Up Regulator
or German: Warmlaufregler
Read: F....k device on a K-Jet engine which causes a lot of trouble without telling you and is most expensive to exchange.

Good enough?
Now get us the answer...

Ahhh yes the WUR!!!!

OK we spent much time trying to get this working properly on '78 Turbo! Rebuilt one, and then put in new one. No good! Still terrible at cold start, a little better after new unit, but not perfect.

Also stumped a professional mechanic after we gave up. Sorry can't help with this one

You need to get a CIS pressure tester (available from JC Whitney for about $50). It lets you read system pressure and control pressure. The WUR regulates control pressure, the fuel distributor regulates system pressure. There are charts that show proper control pressure vs. cold start temperature for SC's in the Bentley repair manual. You can also watch the control pressure rise during the cold start process and verify that it's range is correct. WUR's are also adjustable to some degree.

You also need to verify the heater coil in the WUR is not broken. This can be done with ohm meter.

I think Jens is making that up! It is typically recommended to see a urologist for a thorough Wur function analysis. Good news is that it can be treated with a bit of ointment.

Don't ask me how I know.
