Not disagreeing.. but small company - low volume and specialty tools. They have to recoup any R&D and apply fixed cost to that low volume.

I've looked at a few other tools from them too - but so far just browsing (dreaming)..

People have done some DIY versions of it, if you do a search you may find them. I used one on some JE pistons and it worked very well on those big honking circlips.

22mm clips are easy to do with your fingers. You need the tool for 23mm.

I'll second that.

If you are only building one motor then buy one and sell it used for a slight loss and it'll be a very small percentage of your overall cost.

Oh and don't be a dumbass like me and assume you know how it works without watching the instructional video.

Agree. worth every penny unless you want to spend the time to machine your own to tight tolerance.

Your thumbs will thank you for the purchase. As will the frustration when a clip pops out and drops inside the case.

After attempting assembly without it, $90 seemed like a steal. Those JE clips are monsters

If you are rebuilding an engine, $90 is well spent money. You can collect the tools or sell them afterwards. You don't want to have a circlip come out while the engine is revving at 6000 rpm.

To put this in perspective, a cam timing set up tool for the 996 turbo is $1100.

Yup, took some getting used to, but for the JE piston clips there was no other way for me. It took lot of tries until I figured out the best way. Still took two or three tries to gget one in that way. There is a video on using it by Stomski. I leased mine for about half the cost of a new one.

I had to buy a large left hand tap for a roll bar that unfortunately the threads were powder coated. $197.00 plus shipping. Used only once....now it’s just sits in a drawer...paperweight:-(

Before I got the Stomski tools, I made one out of a 911 cigar lighter outer sleeve and a deep socket. Distorted somewhat, but worked.

I have a 22mm version, pm me your address and I’ll send it out and you can send it back when you get your engine built.
