need help badly
Im doing an engine drop and having severe difficulty in seperating the engine from the transmission. I have a gap all the way around from the mating surfaces but no go! All of the bolts are off. Its a 2.4 with a 5 speed. Any help will be greatly valued.

Figures 15-21 & 60+ and associated text should be what you need.

Cary I had the same problem last year when I pulled my engine. I couldn't find the link in the archives (too far back
![]() Anyways you don't have to take off the arm underneath but it might be easier. I didn't remove mine this time. I think you have to ensure the transmission is in the neutral position and MOST IMPORTANTLY ensure you are pulling the tranny STRAIGHT away from the engine, even a little curve can make it very difficult and may break parts ![]() So try that, or to remove the arm there is a small circlip on the arms shaft take it off, take off the small coil spring, then pry off the arm. Most of all be careful of the large U shaped spring it is under tension and might bite back! (bastardized from 101 Projects- get yours now if you don't already have it ![]() Shawn

Eric,
Remove snap ring, apply penetrating oil to splined shaft above lever ... wiggle or tap arm with plastic mallet ... allow to sit overnight if stubborn. After lever is off, rotate shaft opposite direction from clutch cable pulling ... approx. 1/4 turn or 90 degrees. Transaxle should separate now with no resistance. No helper spring on 2.4 transaxle! Just one straight lever. But the lever is long enough to prevent easy separation. Just go ahead and take it off! Lever is #5 in the following diagram. Don't lose the sealing ring #4!

Shawn. All I remembered was John W. saying something about it being tough, if you forget. Mine seems to come right out. With them off.
Seems the release bearing could be loaded on the main shaft if you don't have the arms off. Just my thoughts and expirence ( 2 times, by no means makes me an expert ).

Cary good point I am no expert either but this last time I got them seperated without taking of the shaft. Probably would have been way easier to take it off.
