Repair early door arm

I have an early (72) interior door arm where the upper flat part of the rubber has pulled away from the metal frame. If it hadn't warped so badly I would have re-glued with contact cement, but I have my doubts about the contact cement being strong enough.
Wondering if 3M or Permatex super weatherstrip adhesive might do a better job?

Anyone with some thoughts, experience or a better suggestion?
Thanks!
Rob

I hope you get your answer as I haven't figured out what I'm going to do to repair this either. So far my idea has been (I haven't done this yet) to cut some slits across the peice and use a heat gun to reform it and glue with an upholstry adhesive, then fill cracks with expanding foam or the goo from one of those dash repair kits, trim and sand, then plastic body filler, sand, then recover with vinyl. I'm not sure how these will weather over time?

Whaddaya think?

Not sure what might work but you might contact some of the folks who re-do dash pads. If you search you should come up with a few names.

An other option would be to convert over to RS style door cards. This may be cheaper than repairing your existing part.

Buy a pre-owned arm rest in better shape. They show up quite often. Might be less expensive than repairing yours.

Mine weren't warped as badly as yours, but I used 3M Weatherstrip adhesive (elephant snot). I applied the adhesive and then heated up the armrest with a hair drier and using a flat board and clamps, i clamped it flat and left it to dry, overnight. It really worked well for me.

regards,
Al

PS: I recovered the door pockets, as well.
