what materials were used for the side roll-up window surrounds on coupes over the early years? I thought the SWB cars used chromed steel while later LWB cars had anodised aluminum. looking to shave some more pounds from my SWB. ideally, was there a year that used aluminum frames and had opening vent windows? any help/input much appreciated, thanks, Don.

Most of the SWB cars had anodized aluminum door window frames, but there were one or two years in there, 68 I think, when chrome-plated brass was used. Maybe someone else can clarify.

SWB cars used chrome over brass as a window frame. That changed in 68 when it went to anodized aluminum. All later LWB cars used aluminum, afik. 1968 is the only year that coupes had opening vent windows and an aluminum frame. Targas are a different story. Since the aluminum frame with vent window is a one-year-only item, they tend to command a premium. However, if you already have the brass/chrome frames, you should be able to install the vent window mechanism into a later aluminum frame with minimum (if any) tweaking.
