wheels options for 1970 t
Doing some refurbishment and light mods to a new to me irish green 1970 911 t coupe, pretty stock as is. Has steel wheels (which I'll keep) but I want rsr look fuchs. Is 15x6 all around the largest I can go or will 15x7 fit in the rear? Don't want to roll fenders. Braid has a 15x6 and 7 rsr finish but its not "deep dish". I'd also like to go with a beefy sidewall tire kinda like Magus Walker's 277 car before he switched to the urban outlaw wheels. And which tires are a whole separate question.. Thanks

7s all around on a narrow body car fits fine and looks *****in. You can fit anything from 185s to 205s.

7RET23.3 can be fitted at either end, not much issue w/ normal tires sizes in front but you have to watch the height vs width of the tire in back. At normal ride height w/ standard suspension a 215/60 on 7ET23.3 will rub at full compression, the rub is well up into the rear fender not at the lip. This tells me that it is a tire height problem. 215/60 x15 is ~25" tall & has a s/w of ~8.7" a 205/50x15 @~23.1" OD & s/w 8.5" would be no problem , but the speedo would be way off if that's a concern. a 225/50 x15 @23.8"OD & s/w 9.1 would be ok, I see lots of these at the track

Also, maybe check out our wheel fitment guide for additional input on sizing: Wheel Fitment and Spacing Guide - Pelican Parts. Be sure to share pictures with us once you get it figured out!

Some of the earlier cars (my '73) can vary side-to-side clearance as much as 3-4mm.
So if the 205's on 15x7's fit nicely on the left - you may still need a tweak on the right. I trimmed about 1/8" off the actual lip with a Dremel. YMMV Bill K

So front 15x6 +35 with 205/55 is a definite fit. 15x7 might fit too with same tire.
Would rear 15x7 +48 7R with 225/50 fit? Bill what is that s/w measurement you mentioned? Don't really mind speedo being off. |

Simply stated, all Porsches are not created equal.
Right side tolerance (from centerline) is often different then left side.

given tire limitations on 15" wheels you might want to consider going with 16" fuchs, as the 16" size opens up a LOT more options.

It's surprising but most sizes of hp tires are limited to only a few choices no matter 15, 16, 17 or 18, You get more choice when you expand to a/s or less performance oriented tires

I have a full set of 15x7's that were on my 72t when I bought it, with new tires 3 years ago. Search my user name for an old ad that shows then. I'm in NJ so it's an easy pickup.

I would go with the fuchs reps in a deep 6 and 7R x 15 from gearheadgreg and it would look sooo right without spending a crap load of $$$ on the originals. These style wheels were on '70 - '71 P-cars and would look period correct.
