Engine Electrical Panel

On the electrical panel in the engine compartment, there are some relays. There are two silver boxes and a round black relay on the panel. I think think the smaller silver relay is for the tach signal, and the larger one is for the rear window defogger. Could somebody identify what each of the relays is and let me know if I can remove them? I am converting my car to EFI. Also, I have a later alternator with an internal voltage regulator, so I have removed that already.

I believe that round black relay in your photo is the cold start enrichment relay. And as I recall ,the smaller silver box is the MFI RPM transducer and the larger silver box is the dual stage rear window heater relay. If you are going to change to EFI and dont need a rear window heater, I guess you can get rid of all of them. Lets see what Grady Clay says .

What year car ? If it's CIS the black relay closes when the alternator starts charging. It sends power to the WUR.

The car is a 72 so there's no CIS. In regrards to the other components, that confirms what I thought. I dont need the rear window defogger, so I guess I can remove them all. With these components gone, it frees up the space and I can make a new mounting panel for the EFI components. Thanks for the help.

You won't need any of that stuff. I run my '77 3.2 (soon to be a 3.6) with all those pieces deleted. The only thing I use the electrical panel for is to hold the 14 pin and diagnostic connectors! With the 3.6 I'll only be using the back half of the above panel. This makes room for the second coil and still holds the 2 connectors I need. In my case the panel itself is not really needed but it helps keep things tidy.
