Finally found/ordered rims-15x7's...now what tires?

So I finally got my hands on a set of 15x7 fuchs. Now the question is what tires to put on them. For sizes what handles better, 205/50 of 225/50? They dont get much highway driving, just extremely "spirited" back road driving. I can deal with a tire that doesnt last that long but I dont want a R compound tire that lasts 3k miles... They are only to be used in the summer in New York so no "all-seasons" needed. Being safe in the rain is always a plus. Thanks in advance and please share your experiences with certain tires.

I like BFG g-Force Sport 205/60's on 15X7's. They are reasonably priced, handle well, and look great. Plus in this size (15") I have found the tire selection is rather limited. My only other consideration would be the Yokohama A048's but they are DOT R compound tires at more than 2X's the price.

I run toyo proxes T1-R's on my 15x7/8's. Very happy with them and the wear is reasonable after a number of autocross events and a lapping day.

Good luck.

What year car? With or without flares? Front or rear?

I have 225.50.15s on 15x7 on all 4 corners of a stock flared '73. Under hard cornering the rears rub a little bit.

As soon as the car gets back on the road, (long story), I'll be installing Dunlop Direzzionales. They are an ultra high performance tire but not as soft as an r tire. they are rated to have good wet weather performance. My 74 has 205/60-15s on it and they rub on the outter fender on hard acceleration, just a bit - got to trim the fender lip or roll it.

I think one of rthe greatest benefits of the tire rack is their tire survey. You can pick the features you desire, rate them, compare your desires with the rankings. First, pick the category of tire you want. I like Extreme Summer :-)

205/50 will have the biggest impact on gearing and *should* fit even on a narrow body car, front or rear. 225-50, if on a narrow car, in the rear, may need some help to fit (camber, ride height, fender lips etc.

Anybody have any pics of 60 tires vs the 50s? I feel lie 50s should handle better since it has a a smaller/stiffer sidewall. But what do I know. What about a set of 215 set of BFG g-forces? Will that fit since it is in between widths 205 and 225? Thanks for the input im looking into all those tires now.

Here are the top pics I found on 205/50=15, assuming that is the right size.
potenza- Bridgestone Potenza RE-11

Direzza's- Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec

advan- Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08

These seem like a good wear/grip tradeoff)bfg gforce)- BFGoodrich g-Force Sport

I have no idea....My car is lowered, stiffer tbars, bilstiens, and a narrow body 76.

Here are 205/55 front and 225/50 rear S03s.

205/50's have a very low profile, look odd on early cars.

On my '70T, I ran 205/60 front and 225/60 rear.. I didn't experience tire rubbing.. Maybe I didn't drive the car hard enough... lol

I found some good threads and definitely like the look of 60 series tires better. Now the question is what tires since they don't make any "extreme" tires for that size. I could go BFG g force or eve falkens. I don't seem to find anything else, what do you guys run on 60's?

205/55 hands down (IMHO )...

205/50, as Shaun states, is just too small/low profile on the 911 (early or late).

205/60 look like balloons after eyeing 55's for a while...

It is a personal choice since ride height plays into it, too. Technically spreaking , the 205/50 gets "pretty far" from what Porsche intended for rolling diameters (stock = ~25" dia, 205/50 = ~23" dia). 50 series will start to impact speedo accuracy and gearing if not compensated for. Just ask the autocrossers... they run 'em for a reason!

You asked for pix...

205/50 on 15x6's on a low '68:

205/60 on 15x7's on a (poorly sitting) '74:

205/55 on 15x7's (mmmm... just right):

Just my 2 cents (well maybe that was more like 4 cents) .

P.S. Shaun, those pics of the cookies on the early car you keep posting almost got me to buy that set you were selling.... stop it!

It's a classic 205/225 911 stagger. I bought the SO3s for a project that I never completed, sold them, then bought them back when I got this car. They stick amazingly well and with a 3.2 going into the car in March, I'll need the 225 out back.

Yokohama makes their Sdrive in 205/55. If I didn't have these, and only had 15 inch wheels, they would be my tire of choice at all 4 corners. I'm trying to get 16 inch cookies made for this summer. We'll see.

here they are:

I have read A LOT of bad reviews about tire graining and feathering on the tirerack site after a few months of driving. Not sure i want to go with them. I wish yoko made advans in my size...

I typically only read tire reviews from same/similar cars.

TireRack.com Tire Reviews

You have to select Porsche, and there are only 7 reviews, but I honestly don't want to hear from most folks driving a GTI or Escort or A6 or even an M3, whether they are positive or negative.
