Exposed inner rear bearing... how did this happen?

A friend's Carrera - removed the axle and voila - the bearing seal is GONE. How does this happen? Where did it go? It was definitely in place when the axle was last inserted.

Yep this happens when removing the axle. Now you need a puller and a new bearing. Check on the axle to see the race and seal

Discussions with owner indicate the previous axle that came out has been discarded - it is likely the one containing the seal and inner inner race - the one that just came out had nothing on it - this means it ran like that for sometime and on the track as well - interesting

I would say it is common, very likely 100% in my experience, that the inner inside race comes out with the axle, what is probably not common is putting it back together with those parts missing although it happens apparently.

I bet that made for a lot of slop.

interestingly enough there was ridge built up on the shoulder section face on the stub axle as if the inner bearing had been pressing against there - not sure if that really happened but it makes sense, I don't think the bearing would have lasted long with the complete inner ball set unsupported
