911 Price Australia

Any guys down under give me an idea of the price of both RHD 3.2 915 and G50. Appreciate that's a wide question, just some examples of those sold or up for sale.

thanks

chris

Hi Chris,
Have a look at Used Cars - New Cars - Search New & Used Cars For Sale - carsales.com.au, I think you will find good 3.2's going for 50 - 60K (AUD).

I'd argue $60k AU would be absolute top dollar one could expect to receive for a g50 Carrera. I honestly don't think you'd top $55k; and $45k gets you a very nice 915 Carrera. IMHO $60k is getting very close to 964 money - and you'd have to argue the 964 is a fair bit more car.

Tony has given you a good link.

OK, our dollars are very close to par, and the prices you're quoting are almost triple the cost here. Isn't it cost effective to source a car in the US, and ship to Australia?

i would sell my '79 sc targa with webers and s cams on a 3.3 with backdated heat and exhaust for half that kind of money.

sevens all around.

i would even leave the h-1s on it.

sorry..... left hander though.

I have a 30yo LHD sc ex Japan , and would have no hesitation sourcing another from the plethora in the states. No conversion required (or needed) if it's a classic and absolutely no disadvantage other than "buyer fear" about LHD in Oz. Of course if you buy with a view to sell, LHD will be harder to shift , but really with the ridiculously high local prices you can easily come out on top.

But don't even consider converting to RHD...stupid money asked , and will devalue the car.

Our crappy car industry is heavily protected here... Unless the car is over 30 years old, the car must be right hand drive. The legislation here makes grey importing of contemporary cars nearly impossible.

Mind you, with the parity dollars, expect to see some of your nicer early cars garaged over here!

FWIW, you'd pay $330k for a new GT3 here...

Chris
1. GST... 10% of the paid for price of the car. (EG: $15,000 = $1,500 GST)
2. Import duties. (Check with Aussie customs for latest rates but less than GST. They have a web page)
3. Custom duties/fees. About $100 to $150.

And of course shipping costs to Aus. Usually worked out per square meter not weight (cars) but it depends on the shipping company.
You'd be surprised how cheap this can be.

Contact a shipping company in Australia. They can handle all of the paper work and payments to Aussie customs.
Believe me there is nothing that can't be shipped.

to ship a RHD to Aus

Chris

Shipping to Aust (dedicated 20' container), approx GBP 1500
Insurance is 2% of vehicle purchase price

Import duty is 5% of purchase price
GST is 10% of landed price (purchase price + shipping + insurance cost)

At the Aust end:
Maritime security charge
Port service charge
Quarantine processing & Inspection
Customs entry fees
Cartage & unpacking of container
Delivery of vehicle
All up about $2,000 Aust
(a good customs broker will take care of all of this for you)

Depending which state you are importing to, there are now some variable costs for registration, roadworthy inspection (MOT equivalent), and engineers certification if required.

Sounds tedious, but all pretty straight forward -- I just went this route for a 88 Supersport Cabrio purchased in the UK remotely

Keith

Just to clarify - there is no restriction on the age for LHD cars in Western Australia. That's an eastern states thing

As far as i know...
Pre '68 vehicles - No Compliance and can remain RHD.
'69-'81 - Need to Comply but can remain RHD

Shipping in a shared container (2 cars) Inc. Insurance - roughly AUS$4500

Definitely worth bringing early Pcars from USA IMHO anyways.

Chaps,

thanks for the input - Is it correct that excluding WA cars less than 30 yrs old must be RHD.
In WA must be older than 15 years
