shipping seats cost ?
Can anyone give me an idea of how much it is to ship a set of seats from east Ca. to West Coast US ? And which Company to use to get a low rate (if that's even possible ) ? They are light fiberglass, but I don't think that matters. Shipper go by each box's dimensional weight
I've never had good luck , as far as being able to get a decent price shipping larger items. That's basically why I don't buy anything larger than a wheel from afar. Thx Last edited by RatBox; 02-24-2011 at 08:58 AM.. |

Can't you ship via Canada Post? I got a set of wheels sent from Canada to Hawaii.

if you have greyhound in canada, that is cheapest way to ship bulky items. you can estimate shipping on ups or fedex website by inputting dimensions, weight and to/from cities.

I've only shipped in the states, but I've had luck with both Fedex and UPS. I've shipped two seats in one box by facing them front to front and one upside down. This provides the smallest footprint. I then cut down the box to the point where it is not considered oversize for Fedex or UPS. Good luck.

Finding the box is probably the toughest part. I shipped two seats, separate boxes, UPS, was supposed to be about $140 as I recall. The guy (I know him), picked them up at the end of his shift, took them and the paperwork I had filled out for home pickup, and later my credit card showed only a charge of $83.00!
Obviously he used his "employee" rate"? Pretty cool. Anyway, that was clean across the USA, so your cost should be somewhere in that range, Greyhound probably low, and on up to maybe $150 or more total. |

I have shipped seats, using Greyhound, with good results. I boxed them up in Recaro boxes, which I received when I bought some seats earlier. You might be able to visit a local speed shop and talk them out of a couple of seat boxes. It makes packing the seats very easy.

it is kind of a hassle. you don't really need a box though; I've shipped a couple seats and just wrapped them in the black plastic film (like huge saran wrap) you can buy at office supply store and stuck a label on it. I would not do this with a brand new $1000 seat, but for a used seat worth few hundred bucks they will usually survive no worse for wear. i did this once on greyhound and once fedex ground.

The wardrobe boxes, which you can buy at moving or storage facility stores for moving clothes, work perfect for shipping seats. If you nest the seats facing each other, you can use just one box.

2 comfort seats fit in a 36x24x24 box. Turn the second seat 90degrees and upside down and roll the seat backs slightly forward and they fit nicely. Sport seats are tougher due to the bolsters.

I just shipped a pair of sport seats from Montreal, Canada to Tony (Autobahn Interior) in San Diego, CA, for 154$ ; Fedex Ground.
3 boxes : I dismantled the hinges, put one seat per box and the headrests and hardware in a third box. Regards JD
