Wind Noise

OK so I test drove an 87 930 Coupe today and there was alot of wind noise coming in I could not pin down if it was coming from the sunroof or the windshield. Is there a common problem with either of those that would cause there to be a lot of wind noise? It was not the windows so those are my only other choices

Yep...
I have an 89 coupe and i have a whistling/wind noise coming in at approx 110 KMS per hour and it drove me crazy for a whole summer until i finally tracked it down.
I ended up taping all around the rubber windshield seal with black masking tape, still had the wind noise, then i sealed the sunroof seal and finally narrowed it down to the joints on the sunroof seal. After i completely sealed the sunroof the noise went away so i ordered a new s seal kit from Pelican and it's on my "near future" to do project list !

I would try the sunroof seal first as it was pretty obvious with my car ...

Cheers !

Thanks Phil I was thinking of tracking it down the same was but I have not bought the car yet so I wanted to get some advise first I would think it is not real serious and I am seriously considering buying it but do not want to have trouble finding and fixing it

Not sure if coupe is the same but my side front quarter window seal on the windshield moved up and had a gap enough for wind to whistle through.

Taping method is a great way to eliminate the source of the culprit.

Mike,

I'm sorry,i meant black electrical tape !
It stretches and seals a whole lot better than masking tape ... my bad ... lol

Good luck with your car hunt

Cheers !

If you have an old W/S gasket that is dried out from the sun, or if you have an after market W/S gasket you'll get a wind noise under the lower lip of the gasket at the cowl. The factory gasket has a wider lip that seals better, particularly in the corners.

When I changed my old gasket it really helped, then I changed the after market gasket to a factory gasket and it improved that much again...

Keep it under 140 mph and you will be fine.
